Last year’s team caught lightning in a bottle and got incredibly hot at the right time. In truth, they weren’t as bad as their terrible start to the season, but definitely weren’t as good as they played in the last two months: they basically “out goalied” teams in their great run.If you think this team is bad, look at last year's team at this time of the year.
I don’t expect this season’s team to duplicate what last season’s team did. All of a sudden, they’re struggling to score, which I never thought would be a problem, and their defensive play and goaltending are subpar in most games. Right now, they appear to be no better than the fourth best team in the Big 10.
Last night’s game was a perfect example of what this team has done too much this season: get a two goal lead against a fragile team and then proceed to do absolutely nothing after that; it happened against Clarkson in a loss and OSU in a win. Also, the uncompetitive blow out losses to MSU and Michigan were big red flags to me about the true quality of this team.
