Up 1 this week in the USCHO poll:
I hope you are correct. Yes the team is young. The biggest concern there is that there are not as many leaders. Also the defense is not as talented (yet?) and inexperienced.I would not be surprised if this Minnesota team is pretty good and tough to beat come February. They have a lot of new players this season and obviously have not fully come together yet. Therefore, they should be able to start winning their share of games.
I don’t think that there’s much of a talent difference between Minnesota and PSU; one of them will finish in fourth place in the conference, and it probably will be PSU.
The sweep was good and needed. However, PSU looked like a tired team yesterday and made a lot of unforced turnovers, especially from the second period onward. Fortunately, Minnesota ran out of gas in the third period too.
By the way, Gadowsky has to find a way to start keeping Pittsburgh area kids like Cooley and Mooney from going to Minnesota. Right now, PSU has everything to offer these kind of players as Minnesota does, and their relatives can drive from Pittsburgh to PSU in two and a half hours to see all of the games in person.
There was some great passing on the PSU PP prior to the goalPlaying shorthanded tonight. Injury dance card is full. And I’m disappointed by how much Domer trash is in the building. Thank goodness the students are back.
Goal for PsU disallowed. B1G refs at their finest. 0-0 with 12:18 left in the first.
Domer in the sin bin. PP upcoming, 7:50 left first.
GoOoOoOooaallll!!! DiMarsico from Misa and McKenna. 1-0, 7 minutes left first.
Garbage holding on Crespo is a gift PP for Domers. 4:20 left.
Yes, passing was crisp, and has been pretty good this evening. I hope these guys are in great shape, because TOI is going to be high for many of them. Likely shorthanded tomorrow as well. There was some great passing on the PSU PP prior to the goal

Killed the penalty, now on the PP which will extend into the second. 1-0, with a minute of PP to open the second. Refs completely inept tonight.
Domers killed our PP. They know we are shorthanded and are hitting hard, sometimes dirty. First Gadowsky had to leave and hasn’t left the bench, now Dowiak takes a hard boarding with head contact. Five minutes AYCE. Hope we make them pay, then steal their lunch money and their girl and wreck the team bus.
Good news is Gadowsky is back on the ice, and Dowiak has returned as well. Bad news is almost four minutes gone of PP and nothing to show.
GoOoOaoOoaoaallllll! DiMarsico again from Misa and McKenna. PP is over, 2-0, 12:21 to go second.
Matching minors, 4on4 for 2. Now another crap holding on Crespo. B1G refs in extremely poor form. Domer goal during 4on3. 2-1, 8:10 left second.
Refs finally see obvious slash, Lions get a PP with 6:49 left second. Couple nice chances, but no joy. Domers got a breakaway with guy coming out of the box but Fleming stoned him. Refs finally realize Domers are out of control, another PP for PSU after roughing.
GoOoOoOoAllllll!!! Misa from Schoen and Smith. 3-1, two minutes left second.
Refs now give Domers another gift PP. Fleming with two great saves before the horn. 3-1 end second, Domer PP has 25 more seconds. TOI numbers may be off the charts for most of our guys tonight. The light seems to have gone off for Misa. He’s REALLY been buzzing on his shifts.
Killed Domer Pp, but now they have another with Schade in the box. 3-1, 15:30 to go. Another Domer PP dies. Domer goalie makes miraculous save on Laubach trying to bury a rebound. Score remains 3-1, 12:57 to go.
Now 8:45 left, still 3-1. Clock reads 5:26, still 3-1. Domers were going to have a PP, but McKenna won the race to touch up and got boarded. 4on4 for 2., 4:46 to go. Crap penalty on Laubach, 4on3 for a spell. Make that 5on3 as Domer net empty. All PP killed. 3-1 with 2:09 to go, six on five.
GoOoOoOoOoAalllllll!!!! DiMarsico hat trick makes it 4-1, 1:46 to go.
Final, sort of surprised the boys didn’t play the feud at the end.
Do you think that Gadowsky is trying to get by the ND series without risking the “day to day” players, and most of them will be ready to go for Wisconsin? If we don’t get some bodies back, the upcoming weekends probably won’t be kind.As Moops alluded to, tonight could be tough. ND will not go away quietly. Will we be short players with a few more maybe dinged last night.
6 currently in the NPI. Hate to say a must win, but I will say it. 3pts and move to 2nd in B1G, keep #6 headed into series next week with Wisconsin who is currently #7 in NPI and 3rd in B1G. ND NPI is so low a L could drop us to 8 and allow depends below that to creep closer.
A lot of tough hockey ahead. Need to get the Ws over teams below us.
Why? Losing to the Domers would hurt us more than a loss to Bucky or Sparty? And judging by TOI last night, Mac did return to the ice but not much, as he had less than 9 minutes TOI. If one of the day to dayers is available and being held back, we might see him with Mac dinged up.Do you think that Gadowsky is trying to get by the ND series without risking the “day to day” players, and most of them will be ready to go for Wisconsin? Yep. Need to get the Ws vs ND and OSU, which is never easy in any B1G game. 4 more games with Wisconsin, 2 with MSU, 2 with Michigan. Glad we are playing the MSU and OSU ones at home. Why? Dowiak took several hard shots last night and kept getting up off the ice. And when Mizzutti (sp) from the Domers took a cheap shot at our 18 year old, Dowiak was one of the first responders in the corner and continually jawed with the dastardly Domer on his way to the sin bin. He wears the C well.
We are in VERY good shape in the NPI and have eight chances (minimum not counting B1G tourney) move up in the next two months.
