They have an awesome record against top competition - especially over last two years. More big victories in one weekend than Frankin over his entire tenure.

If they get goaltending, they can win it all…this year.
They won't get the goaltending that they need, especially when the two goalies play in front of a terrible defense. The two goalies aren't that good, but the defense that plays in front of them is beyond awful. It also doesn't help when they often have to face constant breakways when their own team is on the power play.

As expected, down a skater tonight, with Aman and Fascia playing out of position.

OSU has had an uneven year, winning against some top teams (beating Sparty once and hammering Bucky in Madtown early), while also looking bad against Michiganistan, getting boat raced for the Domers first victory, and losing to ASU twice and Sacred Heart once. On paper I like our chances. That said, we need to get back to playing our brand of hockey and beating up on the teams below us in the standings, like we were before the last four games. Hopefully we get back to where we were, and hold on until Cerrato gets back while avoiding any more injuries.

And just like when we were shorthanded in January, it would not be surprising if teams try to take some liberties and engage us in a war of attrition. It’s a strategy, and I hope Guy has the boys cognizant of that issue, bluntly telling them to stay out of the box.

Fleming appears likely to open in net, and I suspect Guy will continue the auditions right up until the B1G tournament.

Feeling out process for most of game thus far. A two on one break with Schade and Van Olm yields a PP but not a goal.

GoOoOoOoOalllll! You newest man to wear the A, Fink, deposits one, from the kid and Smith. 1-0, with 10:42 left first.

Another PP after a dastardly Buckeye trip.

GoOoOoOoOoalllll!!! The kid fires one home from the high slot! 2-0, from Smith and Fink.

FLEMING with a diving glove stop keeps the Buckeyes off the scoreboard! And another defensive lapse, but Fleming bails them out again. Fascia trips a Redcoat, and we go on the PK. 6:53 left first, 2-0.

Goal for OSU. Plenty of sustained pressure. Though the puck was left available for a breakout and our skater couldn’t grab it.

Fleming just does it again. Bucks have seized momentum. 2-1, 5:31 left first.

Another penalty, this time on Christenson, and the PK unit is on the ice and needs to do a lot better.

Penalty killed, much better this time, though there were one-two good chances for the Bucks. End first, up 2-1.

After a tight opening 8-10 minutes and two quick goals for the Nittany Lions, the Bucks really caught fire. They really should not be trailing. Fleming has stood tall in net. After the second goal, shots were 8-6 PSU. After that point it was 12-2 Bucks. Could be a dogfight.

DiDi tripped in the slot, another PP upcoming.

GoOoOoOoAlllll! 3-1, DiDi from the kid and Fink! 17:07 left second. PP is perfect tonight thus far.

GoOoOoalllllll!!!! Aggressive and effective forecheck allows Wiebusch to punch in a beautiful feed from DiDi. 4-1, also Laubach gets an assist. Buckeye goalie has gotten the hook. 15:38 left second.

Buckeyes halve the lead via a three on two trailer in the slot. 4-2, 15 minutes left second.

GoOoOoOoOooOalllll! Van Olm! 5-2, from Schoen and the kid.

GoOoOoOoOallllll! Misa makes it 6-2, from the kid and Fink.

And then a bad pass breakaway offers an easy one to OSU. 6-3, 11:43 left second.

GoOoOoaoaoalllll!!! Van Olm again! From the kid. 7-3 with 2.28 left second.

GoOoOoOallll! DiDi from Wiebusch! 8-3, 51 seconds left second. Only boos were for the trustees shown on the big screen.

SOG from the second favored PSU 20-10. Perhaps I’m wrong, but the offense seems to have taken some lessons from the last four games and are playing and passing quite well.

GoOoOoOallllll!! Misa from DiDi and the kid. 9-3, 12:24 to go.

Buckeye goal makes it 9-4, six minutes to go.

Fink takes a hard hit, Wiebusch takes offense and we get coincidental minors. Four on four for a spell. Still 9-4. Just announced that the kid has set school record for points in a game and assists. (7 points, six assists.)

DiDi draws a hooking penalty, and now four on three for a spell.

Getting crowded in Buckeye sin bin. Another penalty on the bucks.

GoOoOoOoAllllll! Smith from the kid, adding to his school record night. 10-4 good buddy!!!

GoOoOoOoalllll! Laubach from Mac and Misa. 11-4, less than 2 minutes to go.

I love this board....but can we get a simple final score in lieu of all the hyperbole?
Sorry, man, but after the play by play I’m at home icing my thumbs. But I’ll be back Saturday night.

I don’t think Fink went back out for another shift but did skate and throw tshirts as the third star of the game. We cannot afford any more injuries.

Shorthanded down two skaters tonight with Fascia now out. Normally I’d say OSU should play a rough and tumble/rumble game, but the Nittany Lion power play laid waste to the Buckeye PK last night.

Bouncing puck comes off the boards in front of the goal mouth and Buckeye goes top shelf. 1-0, Redcoats.

Katzin delivers a hard hit, then takes one. PP upcoming, under review for major. Just a minor for interference. Bucks kill the penalty, remains 1-0 with 8:04 left first.

Another penalty on OSU for hooking. Several good chances, some very good, but no joy. After a turnover, a Buckeye missed the net, and now another PP after a hard hit on NCG. Under review for major. FIVE minute major, plus game misconduct for their captain. AYCE for the PP. Let’s eat, boys!

GoOoOoOoOallllll! Van Olm again! 1-1. A very shaky PP yielded more shorthanded shots for oSU it seemed. From Laubach and Misa.
End first. 14-5 advantage in shots, essentially had PP for half the period. 1-1 is better than trailing, but the boys in blue need to take control.

Not much happening early second, but McKenna will take a seat in the sin bin for hooking. Insert mom joke here. Bucks have come to play, although they haven’t been very disciplined. Score Buckeyes, back down 2-1, less than 16 minutes left second. OSU has taken the first 10 shots of the period only five minutes in.

Slapper from the point goes in. Now 3-1 Bucks. 14 minutes left second. A very lifeless second period gets worse after Schoen gets hit and struggles off the ice and straight to the locker room.
PP upcoming after tripping on OSU. Bad to worse, shorty for OSU. Down 4-1, less than eight minutes to go second.

GoOoOoOoalllll Wiebusch!! From Katzin on a two man rush. 4-2, 5:20 left, some life in the old barn. Puck just bounced right over Misa’s stick for another one with an open net. No puck luck, 3:38 left second, boys look tired but are showing signs of life. A staggering 20 SOG for the Bucks. An exhausted group of Lions heads to the locker room needing a big third period.

No Schoen on the bench. Katzin draws a penalty.

GoOaaaalllll!!! The kid hits Wiebusch back door and it’s a one goal game. Down 4-3, 17:20 to go.
And before everyone sits down…

GoOoOoOoOallllll! Crespo ties it up!!! 4-4!!! 17:13 to go. From DiDi and Laubach.

Of course we can’t have nice things. Penalty on PSU, now under review for major. Just a minor on Misa, but the PK needs to step up and not allow a goal. PK successful, and PSU just misses a chance to go ahead for the first time tonight. Ice tilted PSU’s way thus far. Of course, Wiebusch now heads to the box. OSU back on the PP.

Another successful PK. 4-4, 9:59 left.

Katzin down on the ice, under review for penalty. Still 4-4, 5:55 to go. No penalty is the call.

Crespo single-handedly erases a 3 on 1. Well done. 5:28 to go.

Stoppage for icing, 3:53 to go.

Ugh, Aman off for high sticking. OSU has a Pp for final 1:39. End of regulation. OT on tap.

PK good, now a stoppage and 3on3.

THE KID ENDS IT!!!! Incredible stick handling and slams it home!! 5-4!!!

I don’t get the insistence to have to play Reidler every series. Fleming does have superior stats. This team’s biggest issue since the beginning of the season has been in the defensive zone, and solid goaltending can make up for mistakes there. This team is not going to consistently score a barrage of goals every night, but they have unfortunately been a little too consistent with leaking goals, giving up at least 4 goals in each of their last 5 games. It’s a not a good trend.

The goalie isn’t the problem tonight.

Penn State partied hard after the Friday blowout hence the slow legs.

Gadowsky is an idiot. Year after year his team’s play really stupid hockey.

McKenna with the winner but I think he’s been a net detriment.
