Hmm, I'm not sure how to read this. I though the Birds' special teams did pretty well, with the exception of:

- Elliott struggled with FGs at times
- Sydney Brown could be counted on to make dumb penalties
- they took too long reverting to Covey on punt and KO returns

Clay has a good reputation, so the Birds giving permission for Tampa Bay to interview him for a lateral move does raise some questions.

Come on Howie go get Joe Brady if the Bills don't hire him as HC. If not then get Daboll on board

Brady is the OC at Buffalo. And he would still be under contract to the Bills. As such, since it would be a lateral move (to go to the Birds as the OC), the Bills could block him from interviewing. Or, they could allow him to interview, but the Birds would owe compensation (usually a draft pick) to the Bills before they could hire him.

Only time will tell if whomever the Bills hire as HC wants to retain Brady as OC. If they don't, then Brady is free to interview/get hired by any NFL team without restrictions.

My suspicion/guess is that with so many head coaching openings out there (there have been 10 firings/stepping down/away by HC in the NFL), and so many OCs interviewing for all those HC jobs, that is likely to take the Birds some time to land an OC, unless they go a tad bit unconventional (like Bobby Slowik would be) in whom they hire.

I think that’s spot on, @Tom McAndrew . I’m happy that Howie is leading this hire. He’s better poised to succeed in a wheeling-and-dealing market. On top of the musical chairs hiring process, OC candidates will also fake HC interest to extract bigger contracts.

That's a good point. With his experience and connections, it's not likely anyone's going to bamboozle Howie. Or at least that's what I like to think.

Eagles oweing comp in the situation were the HC is fired just seems off, not fair. To tie a guy up like that from not seeking employment, when there’s a good possibility he wouldn’t be retained. Add in so late in the hiring cycle it’s just unjust.
Could Brady have a clause that if the HC is fired he becomes a free agent?

Possibly. The clauses like that rarely are made public when the contract is announced/appears on the web sites that track the $$ of each contract.

I probably was a little too rigid in my post. If Buffalo has no interest in hiring Brady as HC, or keeping him as OC, they could allow him to interview with other teams.

Robert Salah to Tennessee. That’s mildly surprising as I expected them to hire an offensive guy to develop Cam Ward.

That’s good news for the Birds. One less HC job open and things have skewed toward defensive hires early.

Bummer. I really thought Daboll would be the guy. The most damning part of that report is him preferring the Tennessee OC job over Philly.

Ross Tucker made a great comment about entry point for these guys. Patullo had the worst-possible entry point. A Super Bowl winning roster returning almost everyone off of a record setting season.

Patullo started as a first-time play caller with no margin for error. The next OC comes in with a lot more upward room, but there will be high expectations and immediate pressure.

If you’re a former HC looking for a quick rebound, then there’s substantial risk here.

or maybe Brian having coached Jalen Hurts knew he had to look elsewhere lets face it, if the Eagles dont go to the Superbowl next year Nick is getting fired.

Hurts may be part of it. He’s polarizing and it would seem that 2026 is a contract year of sorts with him.

If the Eagles don’t play better on offense next year, Sirianni may not be the only casualty. That’s why I don’t see Howie trading AJ.

You don’t do that and set your team up to be better in 2026.

they really cant trade AJ from a cap stand point. Expand what you mean 26 is a contract yr for Hurts TIA

2026 is the penultimate season of his $255 million contract. It’s the last season with guaranteed money.

The logic goes that the Eagles will have to figure out whether to extend him again or swallow hard and part ways with him. It all depends on his play in 2026.

No doubt Howie and Lurie hope he plays well and warrants another extension. That pushes a lot of dead money further out. But if he plays similarly to 2025, then they have a dilemma.
