interesting comments by Jimmy Kempski. The trade deadline is in 8 days, the Birds won't play again before the deadline. And BG has yet to play since un-retiring, and Nolan Smith is (hopefully) coming off IR in the near future. That's a lot of variables, yet the Birds need to decide by Tuesday a week whether they need to add at DE.

They need to acquire a DE. Lack of pass rush can’t be why this team falls short this season. It’s a known weakness and one 5-sack game against the lowly Giants doesn’t change that.

So you don’t think BG and Nolan Smith can fill in the gap?

I’ll be surprised if they make any ‘high’ level move. IMO Chubb in Miami makes the most sense unless Vic nichts it

i figured that would happen, I just didnt know they needed the roster spot. Maybe for BG?

Jakorian Bennett is probably more the reason for Nickerson being released/re-signed.

They have another week for BG. Perhaps that's why Titus Leo was released. I'm not sure when they anticipate Nolan Smith returning, though the Birds haven't been all that forthcoming about that.

I’d hoped that Smith would be back for Green Bay. His injury was described as a strain, so the IR stint felt like an abundance of caution vs necessity.

hmm, an interesting trade. The Birds got a CB, which didn't cost them a ton. My reaction when I heard about the trade, was good, they got a CB. However, upon learning more about it, it's somewhat confusing. Michael Carter has played almost exclusively at the nickel CB (in the slot). I think he's only played outside for @ 40 snaps in his NFL career. DeJean is the Birds' slot CB, so what's the thinking here? Time will tell.

part of my confusion is that when Fangio spoke with the press this week (Tuesday), I think, he said this:

Some scenarios:

1. They’re going to try DeJean outside. This contradicts Fangio’s comments yesterday.

2. They plan to ditch Jackson and/or Ringo, and this adds more depth in preparation. They then add a starter outside or hope Bennet can do it.

3. Fangio thinks Carter can play outside.
