285 Semifinal: #3 seed Greg Kerkvliet vs. #2 seed Wyatt Hendrickson (Okla. St.)

I'll use WH for Hendrickson

Per 1
No shots thru 1 min. WH soort of shoots, nothing. Kerk tries to get behind and he slips and WH falls on him for the TD, 0-3. First points that Kerk gave up in NCAAs this year. OOB with 22 sec left. Kerk works to a sitout,a dn stands is out just before the buzzer, 1-3. RT @ 57 sec for WH

Per 2
Kerk takes bottom. Kerk sits out, band finally gets the hips away and gets the esc, 2-3. WH tries a body lock throw and they go OOB with 1:23 left. Not much action from either guy in neutral after the restart. Kerk shoots, nothing. End. RT @ 1:27 for WH

Per 3
WH takes bottom. Not a good situation for Kerk. WH to a 3-point stance, and spins out for the esc, 2-4. SH shoots, Kerk tries to throw him but WH stays with it and gets the TD, 2-7. Kerk is pretty flat, though he looks to be working. He gets to his base, and nearly spins out but WH spins behind him so no esc. RT is locked fro WH. Kerk sits out, WH looks for a cradle, and then Kerk gets flattened. 30 sec left. Kerk works up slowly, but runs out of time. With RT, it's a 2-8 DEC for WH

Kerk drops to the Consolation Semis tomorrow.

So, for those with a better understanding than me -- despite the team lead, do we consider this to be an underwhelming tournament given the hype coming in?

Not me. Hendrickson has been a force this year. I had him winning with or without leg. Kerk can get third though which will be great
Greg would have won if healthy imo. I think Hendrickson at the very least gets majored by Gable.

If you are impressed with beating two top ten guys all year good on you

I think to get 3 in the finals is underwhelming given the hype coming in. But I believe everyone is still wrestling, which I don't think was the case this time last year. We'll have to see how it ends up.

It’s not underwhelming. As for the hype, that exists mostly on this board. If you watch Flo and other non PSU podcasts, they don’t hype, they focus on who will be 2nd and drastically reduce conversation about PSU.

Depends on who you ask. My opinion, no, not underwhelming. Disappointed in a couple of weights, given the potential matchups I thought Kasak had a pretty clear path to the finals and I was really surprised how Haines wrestled, but 10 AA’s, you really can’t be underwhelmed with that. News flash…the other guys are pretty good too.

To have all 10 still wrestling and all be All Americans is very impressive. 10 AAs has only been done once before today. If we get three National champs I’ll be content not overjoyed but content and happy with the outcome.

Clearly he won. In these tournaments you can’t say hurt or tired etc. everyone is hurting and tired. Hendrickson was the better wrestler so give him some credit. Is it that hard?

I'm no expert but that's the way tournaments are. Give credit to other teams who came in and made some noise. Nebraska has a couple guys carrying the team and they'll get a ton of post-tournament hype, because let's face it - the media is always looking for a feel-good story. Penn State winning again is boring to them.
