It certainly places an emphasis on having a strong head coach in place who owns one side of the ball. Think KC with Andy Reid calling the plays. That’s how I’ve run my career. When the leaders above you leave for something “better” the new people think you know what you’re doing. It’s worked for twenty years so far.
Not always but closeThe NFL coaching circle is like a fraternity. Once you’re in, you’re in until you want to be out. No matter how bad you are, someone will still be interested in you.
How that guy ends up being interviewed for so many HC jobs is beyond me. What has he done at MD to quantify a HC job in the NFL. I would think the Jets would be more interested in JF than Locksley![]()
Ok - i will say it
Franklin to College Park
or Kotelnicki to College Park
or Allen to College Park
or Jay to College Park
or Al Golden to College Park
or Jimbo to College Park
or Saban to College Park
Exactly. Hard to imagine the Jets being this stupid but maybe GM Rodgers likes him.How that guy ends up being interviewed for so many HC jobs is beyond me. What has he done at MD to quantify a HC job in the NFL. I would think the Jets would be more interested in JF than Locksley
Is it a Rooney rule interview? How that guy ends up being interviewed for so many HC jobs is beyond me. What has he done at MD to quantify a HC job in the NFL. I would think the Jets would be more interested in JF than Locksley
Yes, it is. Everybody here in Maryland knows it is including the coach himself. There are a few down here who even believe that Mike’s agent called the Jets to let them know of his interest in interviewing, just so he could practice the process some. He knows that with the addition of the four West Coast schools and Indiana’s quick rise that Maryland’s place in the conference is recessing even further. Is it a Rooney rule interview?
Poor guy Mayo… he is forced to sit home and try to spend $25 million of a guaranteed contract after an entire year of work. I so wish I could get “ jobbed” like that.I understand the hire, but Mayo got jobbed. Royally. The guy was fast tracked into the job by an overzealous owner, inherited an absolute crap roster and was fired after a single season as a first-time head coach.
I cringe at what would have happened to a young Andy Reid in today’s environment.
You sound like an owner trying to justify what happened. These guys are competitors who want to win and be the best.Poor guy Mayo… he is forced to sit home and try to spend $25 million of a guaranteed contract after an entire year of work. I so wish I could get “ jobbed” like that.
Dude… lighten up… I don’t give a crap, I come here for laughsYou sound like an owner trying to justify what happened. These guys are competitors who want to win and be the best.
After a long playing career, this job wasn’t about the money. Kraft’s quick hire last year prevented Mayo from getting another job where he probably would have gotten a few years to prove himself. Big difference, IMO.
Oh I’m not being gritty with you. No hard feelings at all. Just good discussion.Dude… lighten up… I don’t give a crap, I come here for laughs
If we had the weather thread it would never be boring!Oh I’m not being gritty with you. No hard feelings at all. Just good discussion.
It’s good to have different opinions here. Things would be boring otherwise.

The real problem is, I think they knew they were going to sign Vrabel so why let Mayo coach the last game only to win it????I understand the hire, but Mayo got jobbed. Royally. This would be very Bears
PreciselyThey should pass. Good man, but they can find a better coach.
