Bryce has not “earned” more moneyWell, the good thing at least is that John Heyman is about as reliable as Desmond Howard. Heyman has often been the mouthpiece for agents to get their message out there. This sounds like Boras trying to plant some seed that Bryce is unhappy with the message as the trigger to get Harper some more $$. Unless I hear this from others and not Heyman, I pay no attention to this.
I understand the other side but the Phillies have a number of assumed revenue for each additional butt in a seat. For the first year Bryce signed, attendance went up by over 1 million. If you attribute that increase to Harper signing, the additional revenue of 1 million additional people is staggering.Bryce has not “earned” more money
He can be pissed all he wants for all I care
Go out and be a leader and then talk to me about more money
Then why did he sign a 13 year guaranteed contract?I understand the other side but the Phillies have a number of assumed revenue for each additional butt in a seat. For the first year Bryce signed, attendance went up by over 1 million. If you attribute that increase to Harper signing, the additional revenue of 1 million additional people is staggering.
The issue then becomes that additional revenue is only generated by increases in ticket cost, concession increases, and television or advertising revenue. The Phillies haven’t materially increased attendance since they pack the Money Pit game on game, year on year. But you still can say that attendance is maintained because of Harper and the revenue is maintained as a result.
I fully understand the position but the Phillies have made a ridiculous return over what they have paid to Harper since he signed. Harper knows his salary ranking as well as the return he’s generated. He has outperformed his contract to date. But I understand both sides of the coin.
Point taken. But Boras wouldn’t be doing his job if he simply accepted that Harper is now like 30th on AAV given the revenue he’s generated for the Phillies. Then why did he sign a 13 year guaranteed contract?
Isn’t that the classic rationale for a player opt-out clause after 3-4 years?
Bryce is a great player, but he can’t have things every way. And the Phillies took on risk on the back end of the contract
What a whiner
They doYeah, not a good look, in my opinion, for Bryce or Dombrowski. We’re all disappointed. It sucks but let’s not point fingers before the World Series even ends.
Everyone needs to go on vacation haha.
They do
But I’m kind of over Harper - he hasn’t been “elite” imo for several years
I know he wanted more money last year and it seemed to be bothering them that they didn’t extend it or increase the $$
He seems to hit a lot of HRs that aren’t crucial to the game - has bad base running tendencies- and just all in all doesn’t seem like a good leader.
I really wouldn’t be upset if they did trade him actually.
This team has some parallels with PSU in that it needs a refresh.
No team is taking Harper’s remaining contract given his recent play. Dombrowski went big for. 3-4 year window that just closed. Now his hands are tied financially.I can’t argue, sadly.
Just stay on the field and play better in the playoffs. Quit crying about getting more years on your contract. What a whiner
They will start bitching for more money if they outplay their contract, but if they underplay it like, say, Casty, there’s no ratcheting it down - you’re stuck with the deal.Just stay on the field and play better in the playoffs. Quit crying about getting more years on your contract.
This is why a lockout is almost a 100% certainty when the CBA expires. MLB owners put themselves over a barrel and can only look in the mirror. They will start bitching for more money if they outplay their contract, but if they underplay it like, say, Casty, there’s no ratcheting it down - you’re stuck with the deal.
Weird how that works
SO GREAT!! I’m tuning in tonite again fo shoAlso, this might be the most entertaining World Series game ever.
