Do you think the Phillies are going to win the national?
Do you think the Phillies are going to win the World Series?
Implied odds from sportsbooks give them about 12-13% chance. That is second best odds in all MLB. That should give an idea of how much of a crapshoot it is to win a World Series.

edit. To put it in perspective, that means a team with a record as good as the Phillies is expected to win it all once out of every eight years.

Bailey with a walk off grand slam for the Giants. This is 2-fold. The Giants creep closer to the Mets, and the Phils extend the lead over the Dodgers.

Yeah. The Mets are now only 0.5 games in front of the Giants for the last playoff spot in the NL. I believe that also puts the Fightins 5.5 games ahead of the Dodgers for the 2nd seed (and the bye) in the NL playoffs. The BrewCrew won, so the Brewers remain 2 games ahead of the Fightins for the 1 seed in the NL playoffs.

3rd-base ump blew that call on the chop over the base by Harper. He called it foul, but replay clearly showed that it was fair when it went over the 3rd base bag. Not a reviewable play, so nothing you can do about it unless the home plate ump wee to override the call.

I'm of the unpopular opinion that the umps got it right. The first bounce near home looked like it hit the chalk given the amount of dust it kicked up. Drawing a straight line from there to where the second bounce occurred would take the path of the ball outside the bag, even if just barely. I'd have loved a fair ball call though.

don’t think it was fair. Didn’t see anything clearly indicating that

exactly what he said last post

Down the stretch they come and what a run they are on. What I’m watching-

1- Obviously, first and foremost seeding. Phillies have the best home record so #1 seed is still preferable. If they can’t run down the Brewers, conventional wisdom is they want the #2 seed to set their pitching and avoid first round. But we all see what rest can do to momentum but I assume they want #1 or #2 seeds. The rest would basically get your rotation lined up but more importantly allow JT to get off his feet for a rest.

2- Could Thomson be so bold to keep Bader in the leadoff if Turner returns? You would say no way but if Turner has any limitations and won’t use his legs, it’s up for debate. I think it becomes Turner, Schwarber, Harper, JT, Marsh, Bader, Bohm, Nick/Kepler, Stott. I think there are some real decisions but I like Stott on base before Turner to have speed before the big boys. But there are a ton of permutations.

3- I would be shocked if the three LHP’s are not 1-2-3. The 4 is interesting if you need 4 which you will need. I assume it’s Nola. The sneaky move Dombrowski made was Buehler. I think he was brought in as a pen guy and I think he could be effective.

So they have Buehler, Kerkering, Robertson, and Duran from the right side and Banks and Strahm from the left side. The big lefty acquired late might stick as well. Given how bad the pen was, I think they are in decent shape.

You have to like their chances as much as anyone’s. They are as confident a team I’ve seen.

Great seeing how the offense is so productive with more contributors. And come from behind victories, which seemed rare, lately have been commonplace.

One last thing.

The Brewers are formidable given they have the best road record. Everyone assumes the #1 seed has a way easier bracket because the #1 likely gets the Cubs in the Division series if it’s chalk. But the Cubs have a better road record than the Phillies. People should not sleep on the Cubs.
