I use some basic statistics such as points for/against, results against common opponents (if any), historical program strength, rankings on Massey, and my gut feeling if the numbers seem too far off. Yes, it is very unscientific. Given what little I know about teams in the lower classifications I could easily be way off. Over the course of the season I have been correct more often than not with the NOVA teams with 60% correct against the spread (e.g., favorite covers) and 80% of the favorites win (but not always cover). I just do this because it is more challenging than just picking a game winner.
