Great start for Martinez. 3 straight that have been better than the previous one. Hopefully the bats wake up and score some runs. They did get Stephenson's first home run today.

Broken arm, out for season I assume
I really hate it for him. Coming at a time when his family is about to have a child too and dealing with this gruesome injury.

Saw where they are calling up Jacob Hurtubise in his place right now. Hoping we see Hays back this weekend and get the offense going again. I am glad to see Lyon Richardson is back with the Reds after the innings he gave the Reds. Having a few guys like him, Ashcraft, Suter & Spiers when healthy that can eat multiple innings will save this bullpen throughout the year.

What does Rece Hinds need to do to get the callup???

I don’t think he’s a legit major leaguer, but he’s earned a shot by playing great in 2025, and he can obviously get on a heater to give this team something they definitely lack. I don’t get it.

I know his strikeout rate has went down this year, but it’s still hovering around 27-30 percent isn’t it?

Raw power, above average speed, and a decent arm. A lot of people have been calling on him to get the call. I read an article by Greg Kuffner on SI saying the Reds should call him up. He deserves another shot up here.

The report from Annie Sabo on the pregame on the prognosis for Callihan. The injury may not be season ending after all, shutdown for baseball activities for 2 months and go from there.

Reds have stranded 5 on base with no score through 4. The only saving grace is that the Braves have stranded 6 and no score.

He’s gotta be better than Blake Dunn

Under .500 again. Reds were chasing bad pitches all night. Abbot pitched a good game and then...
Abbott has been huge since coming off the IL in the 5th spot. Racked up 8 K's. Only 1 start this year has he given up more than 1 run and that was pitching in the high altitude of Colorado. The run given up vs St. Louis was not an earned run. Will need the ace HG to play stopper again tomorrow.

I was for Dunn getting an opportunity to prove himself to start the year after a hot ST when Hays was hurt the 1st time. At this point, it is time to send him back down and call up Rece Hinds. Even when Hays gets activated, Hinds is a better option than Dunn today.

Dunn brings a lot to the table with his defense and speed, but I can’t believe how bad he’s been at the plate. I think he’ll figure it out and eventually be a really good 4th outfielder, but not today.

Also, Hays is incredibly frustrating. Is this guy just always going to be hurt?

I was sitting on the couch last night getting frustrated and my wife reminded me how in the past few years or more I just expected them to lose so was not miffed when they were playing bad. With new management and pitching being pretty good, I was/am expecting a different outcome, so I have been getting a little perturbed at recent outcomes.

I even bought me a couple of new shirts and hats damn it! Bastiges.

HG left the game early with a right groin injury. Had 3 scoreless going with 6 K's, 2 hits. Big game for Friedl so far with a couple of home runs.

Back in the win column. Need Lodolo to bounce back to get the series split tomorrow. Hope the injury is nothing serious that will keep HG out awhile. SP is the biggest strength on the team and he leads the way.

Impression I have is that it's certainly not career or probably even season threatening, but he'll be out for a few weeks. Curious to see who takes his spot, if he is gone. Lowder still isn't 100% health ready, Speirs is hurt, Petty isn't ready, Burns isn't ready. They've got a couple of journeyman in AAA who can probably try to hold down the fort. I guess they'll end up throwing Petty into the fire, though.

From the 7 year span 1970 - 1976 when the Reds went to 4 WS....
Bench avg. 149 games a year (this while enduring multiple broken bones, concussions, and lung surgery)
Perez avg. 148 games a year
Rose avg. 160 games a year.

Want to have the best chance to win....keep your best players on the field. Obliques, groins, toe jam, migraines....keeps a player in the sick ward for weeks in this era. In 2022, the Reds had one guy play over 111 games....the illustrious Kyle Farmer.

Mike Trout hasn't played anywhere close to a full season since 2019.

From 2001 - 2012 (age 27-38) Ichiro only had 1 year where he played less than 157 games, and won 10 GG....so he was playing full time.

Francona talks like it will be only a start or two on the IL during the pregame. They have an off day coming up on the 12th. Francona has already used the opener strategy with Suter going 3. Ashcraft and Richardson are former starters. Ashcraft pitched 3 innings on the 1st vs St. Louis, Richardson can give you 3 or 4. That will cover a game.

As far as the option for anyone in Louisville getting a start in CIN, Petty is the only one on the 40-man roster that is healthy. Spiers may have a chance at being ready if it extends beyond that. Lowder & Miley a ways off still. I wouldn't recommend the Reds taking anyone they have off the 40-man and jeopardize losing them through outright waivers. Could get creative by further manipulating the IL and transfer Candelario to the 60-day IL. That frees up a 40-man spot, and they can put Randy Wynne back on who has started for Louisville. Wilkerson & Parrish aren't viable options who are off the 40-man roster too.

The Reds have left a lot of runners on the bases tonight. 2-2 after 7. Hopefully we can score before going extra innings because we are ofer in extras this year so far.

Elly really acts like he’s thinking too much at the plate in big spots. Gotta be able to get at least one good swing in that spot.

Many of the Reds players have been chasing out of the zone pitches lately.

Ashcraft walking the first batter put us in the hole there.

Edited: Ashcraft is 0-2 in save attempts this year.

His misplay nonwithstanding, Hines needs to play every day . When Hays gets back, let Hines DH. We need his pop. Also , Espinal and Trevino should play basically every day , somewhere. When Hays and Marte get back, hopefully we’ve seen the last of Dunn and Hurtubuise.

Reds just seem to find it impossible to get good in all phases at once. This year they have the starting pitching, but lack clutch hitting and frankly, much of any offense at all in a lot of games (lot of injuries is a legit excuse though). Already lost three 1-0 games in a row, and with two blown saves in 3 days, now it looks like closer(s) are shaky as well.

Our starting 1st baseman is out, our starting 3rd baseman is out, our starting left fielder is out, our DH is playing hurt.

WTF?

NFL players don’t get hurt this often. I just don’t get it.

And every pitcher seemingly spent time on DL last year

I totally understand how/why pitchers get hurt, especially the way they're all geared up to throw high-90s now, but not position players. It's pretty bizarre.

M4: you still want to rub that Spencer Steer take in my face?
Grow up and stop being petty. I'm not going back and forth with you in this thread all season. I don't take glee in any Reds player struggling in order to prove a point. I'm happy to eat crow about Nick Martinez all day long, and hope he goes out and dominates Houston tonight.
