We were basically a twin post because Stulke never developed a consistent outside shot even thou she was playing the 4 she couldn't stretch her outside shot. I think Iowa can still play big next year because I think we will have more of that stretch 4 and if that's the case then teams cant double or drop off onto Heiden. Everyone is saying we need guards who can shoot the 3, I don't disagree but a think we need kids that can create off the dribble and not set 3 point shooters that cant create on mismatches. I think the fresh coming in from Calif will contribute just because of her length and her outside shooting that teams will have to honor. She will be different than Deal coming in simply because she wont be a main ball handler like she had to be. Alot of people really down on Deal because she was a highly ranked kid out of HS but if you look at all the 4 and 5 stars that were ranked higher or around her only a handful had major contributions to their current teams and some got very few minutes of playing time. I think this off season she is going to turn some heads and if she can duplicate the improvement that Heiden did from year 1 to year 2 that is going to be huge for her and the team. I think she will focus on getting her body quicker and work on her ball handles because she could easily play the 2 or the 3 or even the stretch 4 with 4 out.
I agree with what you are saying. We were a basically a double post offense, stressing hi-lo action. I agree that we can still run it again next year and be more successful because our posts will be able to hit that high post jumper that we couldn’t hit consistently. I just don’t like double post offenses as they have a tendency to not create the type of spacing I prefer. I like to see basketball played with NBA spacing with more space to drive and kick, plus it can create more space for 1v1 post play. Neither is right or wrong. Just my opinion on the type of basketball I like. Jan will make her decision offensively based on what’s best for our personnel. I trust her. I’m just saying…

The only guaranteed starter I see for next year is Ava Heiden. All other positions should be open for competition. If we can get 3 good players out of the portal, go get the 3 best we can, regardless of position. If it’s only 2 players, get the best 2 players. We have quality pieces we can fit around them.

No Chit Chat? You cannot be serious. Journey will also start at a 3. And Heiden of course.

I am serious. And don’t call me Shirley. 😉

I would lose no sleep if ChitChat and Journey ended up starting next year. But if a better PG or a better forward are available to us, we should absolutely take them.

but we kinda do

Absolutely...it's the best way to destroy the reputation at a family first program and ensure no recruits or transfers trust the program again.

I will never have to suffer that misery again I felt yesterday with your plan, since we will never again have hope (or even be the type of program I want to root for).

Thank you, I am all for it.

There you
Have to figure Hawks lose 3-4 players.
My random guesses would be Mallegni, Houston, Rodriguez, Johnson, Deal, and based on how JJ lashed out today, maybe CC.
Hays...just don't see her playing if she can't get >60% on FTs. It would be "hack a Shaq" every time she touches the ball. I
BTW: Petrie, 6'2" from Nebraska, plays the "4", I think, one year left. A bridge to MW? 11ppg.
There you go talking out of your *** again.

Reading some of these posts is laughable. As Jan said, we need a couple girls the can make shots. We don't need to tear the team apart.

3 players that played significant minutes leaving as of now, 1 player coming in, Jan swung and missed for some high profile recruits from the high school ranks, I’m not sure how attempting to backfill on the recruiting misses in the portal is going to tear the team apart.

PG: Chit-Chat Wright
SG: Addie Deal
SF: Taylor Stremlow
PF: Journey Houston
C: Ava Heiden

Bench
1. McKenna Woliczko
2. Callie Levin

They need to add point guard depth and 3 point shooting in the portal.
This is the correct answer assuming Addie makes a significant jump between now and next year. I also don't think Hays leaves and will continue to back up Ava.

I was replying to a poster that said Ava was the only player that should be guaranteed a spot. Ava, Chit Chat and Stremlow are three players guaranteed a spot. Addie and Houston have a shot to start but McKenna will probably replace Hannah in the lineup.
I have posted numerpus times that Jan needs to replace Kylie and McCann. A PG backup would also be nice. Only time will tell.

Split time, maybe 25 Ava, 15 new transfer. Hayes could work and develop.
She had some good moments but Hayes must develop into a reliable post, who can pick and roll, handle the ball in the paint when passing to Ava, and kick out the perimeter shooters without turning over the ball...improving her defense as well. She doesn't have to be as good as Ava or Hannah, but better/more consistent than she played this year. I think she can do it.

I still have hope for Layla as a backup but I can’t see her and Ava in the lineup at the same time. I consider her less of a threat shooting the ball from the high post area than Hannah. Then we are back to playing 4v5. If we stay with a double post offense McKenna or Journey have to pair with Ava or Layla.

This would be my best guess too, and I like it but man this would be a small starting lineup. I know Journey plays bigger than 5'11, but still. Hopefully McKenna will be game ready as a freshman to give us some size in addition to Ava out there.

If so Iowa won’t be as good next year. If they want to elevate they have to be harsh and realistic about their roster.

Just like the men's team, Jan Jenson needs more HEIGHT. 5'4" at PG and 5'11" at the 3/4 (Houston) is not the best situation to be in.
Really need Deal to take a HUGE leap forward and for MW to be ready to step in immediately. Deal at the 2 and MW as stretch 4 would help with the size issues.

Journey will also have to significantly improve her ballhandling and shotmaking to play the 3. Just don’t thunk her size will allow her to play the 4 otherwise.

Just like in the men's game, 5'11" women need to be high-quality ball-handlers and shooters. It's almost useless having that type of size on the floor without those characteristics.

I think they need to bring in a big 4, and you end up with Woliczko playing out of the paint next season, whatever that looks like. Journey probably ends up in a similar rotation between the 3-4.

wishful thinking on Brown. Not going to happen. I’m pretty sure she is not interested in playing for a pound it into the post program after leaving a pound it into the post program. I’m sure she is looking for more freedom to play her game.
