This is what I was holding off on.
And realizing it can NEVER be verified because there isn't a soul on the staff or team that wants this as public knowledge because it can kill portal recruiting if it is remotely true.
This is a huge negative going forward and certainly doesn't affirm Jensen is a leader of a well funded basketball program.
For somebody who doesn't watch women's basketball you sure have a lot of negative opinions about Jan. Always interesting, posters who hide behind a screen, doubt they have ever been productive leaders.

You're not refuting any of my opinions with facts.

Leadership is subjective.
Don't see it currently on the wbb team from afar.
Not making the Sweet 16 this year kinda supports my POV.
Sorry you don't see it.

My bad. She was only that good
Well, given what Deal was rated, maybe everyone except the top 3/4 are subject to question?

Given her lack of an outside shot and athleticism, Deal was overrated.

Now, the hope has to be that MW has success immediately, because kids will jump after one season.
JJ will be under the microscope next year. Might even be a situation where JJ has to start MW immediately?

Look at it this way...Imagine Jada Gyamfi, the social butterfly, getting along great with potential teammates and, in reality, scored 100 points in her college career.
One of Lisa's biggest whiffs, I bet.
Fortunately, Bluder had CC, so JadaG being a non contributor for 4 years wasn't a big deal.
Every team has player like this.

I think defense will struggle for sure and most likely rebounding will struggle early on. People don't understand how important the seniors were there.
True. I just don’t think this group will suddenly be a mid pack team. Portal will be huge to determine. I’m hoping Deal starts playing to her rating.

So...the Den Mothers wanted Jada and JJ asks two players(both guards) to see if there was a cultural fit and they said "no"?

If that is all true, the HC isn't even running the roster????

This is beyond laughable Beth might as well just skip the HC and let the girls on the roster set the starting lineup.
Talk about "in over her head".
Don’t be stupid. Lisa did this too. Coaches all over do this. Glad you’re jerking off to Deal leaving.

No. You REALLY hate Jan. You have an agenda, like I said. You aren’t happy for her wins but sure AF celebrate her losses. It’s pathetic. S h i t t y fan.
Question...why on earth would you hope Addie Deal lives up to her hype AFTER she leaves???

That's beyond stupid, especially if she potentially ends up at a school like UCLA or Oregon!
Or was that post sarcasm?
BTW: I don't hate Jensen, just think there should have been a search.

Don't laugh at ISU. Iowa is down to a roster of 8. If this gets worse, and I believe it will, MW may ask back out and Iowa will grant her wish. Indiana went through this last year, and you see what happened to them. I see Hayes to Washington, Teegan to Wisconsin, Rodriguez back to Florida area, Just DO NOT lose JOURNEY. Iowa is headed to about 10th to 14th in league next year. Jan messed up High school recruiting this year and Rodriguez washed out. Chit came with the Assistant Coach

Given how the Iowa program in multiple sports has been promoted as a "cultural" environment, this story is definitely believable.
See post #286...no one in their right mind wants it known that the HC isn't running things.

The fact that this story is floating on the interwebz is not good PR.
Every single team is going to have multiple transfers and there will be reasons why behind all of them. This is a nothing burger every team will go through and I bet we lose a couple more and gain 3 or 4.

You want drama go to the ISU board. Their entire women's sport department is a train wreck.

I think the tale on Deal transferring is obvious when you look at the box score of our last game: 4 minutes played to Stremlow’s 49.

Now, Stremlow was objectively better down the stretch and earned the staring role. But it’s easy to see why Deal may have felt aggrieved.

And with most of our guards underclassmen, with only more on their way, is it really any mystery why she transferred? I don’t think we need to invoke anything about our culture or offensive philosophy or whatever to understand this one.

I do wish we would’ve stayed. I was interested in seeing what kind of player she could’ve developed into. Who is anywhere near their peak as a freshman?

It does bring up an interesting point about highly rated recruits going forward. Do you need to give them extra playing time up front, or risk losing them to the portal? Are we about to see Woliczko play the majority of the game from the jump, regardless of how she performs initially? I do at least hope she is given more of a leash than Deal was.

All recruits (and players for that matter) need to earn their playing time. I think Woliczko will earn it in preseason practice and non-conference games. She has too much talent not too.

Agree with all this, Iowa doesn’t have the luxury of sitting 5 star recruits. They aren’t UConn!

Jan's offense is not setup to let guards really be successful. She wants to pound the post good guards going to play in a system more suited to them. That is why Deal wanted to come to Iowa to begin with was Lisa's style. Jan ducked up and changed it all
When none of the guards can shoot or creat their own shot you are left looking inside. Deal was underwhelming to me. Slow feet, poor ball handling and decision making. Inconsistent shooting and defense wasn't especially good either.

I guess we'll see how this plays out. I know everyone loves potential, but the portal era doesn't really allow for that. Deal played just as much as she could on a team with 7 losses. Three of those losses are games she started.
And how did the rest of the team play in those losses. like the west coast trip? Like crap right. It must have been Deal, That probably while Kylie didnt score a point in the NCAA tournament as well....

Really? Well hopefully it won't be when she's playing against us...

Deal had exactly one good game before starting on the west coast trip.

Starting her, with the increased pressure of probably having many friends and family in attendance, was a questionable decision, at best.
Another head scratcher was Mallegni getting a lot of playing time at the Wisconsin game, and then none, or next to none, the rest of the season.

Jan may have let the seniors dictate too much. Hannah could not adapt to a true 4, did not do the work over the summer, Kylie and Taylor were one dimension players with weaknesses. Jan rode those players and Ava way too much. The bench was invisible by the end of season. Even Levin could have played more.
