Different days IMOLute let the players have say on potential recruits, Back in the day the story was that the players told Lute no bueno on Joe Barry Carroll. It’s not that unusual.

I'm guessing Sue Beckwith had a lot of input on JJ being hired and how long she continues as HC at Iowa.If Jensen continues pounding the ball inside her tenure might be short-lived because good guards want some freedom to create. JMO
For somebody who doesn't watch women's basketball you sure have a lot of negative opinions about Jan. Always interesting, posters who hide behind a screen, doubt they have ever been productive leaders. This is what I was holding off on.
And realizing it can NEVER be verified because there isn't a soul on the staff or team that wants this as public knowledge because it can kill portal recruiting if it is remotely true.
This is a huge negative going forward and certainly doesn't affirm Jensen is a leader of a well funded basketball program.
You're not refuting any of my opinions with facts. For somebody who doesn't watch women's basketball you sure have a lot of negative opinions about Jan. Always interesting, posters who hide behind a screen, doubt they have ever been productive leaders.
Well, given what Deal was rated, maybe everyone except the top 3/4 are subject to question? My bad. She was only that good
Yes, if the team came to them and said she isn't a good fit, even those coaches would strongly consider that. That's what a good leader does. Culture is everything. You really think Geno, Staley, Mulkey, and the UCLA coach operate like this?
I have my doubts.
Don't be naive.
Every team has player like this.Look at it this way...Imagine Jada Gyamfi, the social butterfly, getting along great with potential teammates and, in reality, scored 100 points in her college career.
One of Lisa's biggest whiffs, I bet.
Fortunately, Bluder had CC, so JadaG being a non contributor for 4 years wasn't a big deal.
Agree, if you have the luxury of a talented top 8/9 players.Every team has player like this.
True. I just don’t think this group will suddenly be a mid pack team. Portal will be huge to determine. I’m hoping Deal starts playing to her rating.I think defense will struggle for sure and most likely rebounding will struggle early on. People don't understand how important the seniors were there.
Don’t be stupid. Lisa did this too. Coaches all over do this. Glad you’re jerking off to Deal leaving.^^^^
So...the Den Mothers wanted Jada and JJ asks two players(both guards) to see if there was a cultural fit and they said "no"?
If that is all true, the HC isn't even running the roster????
This is beyond laughable Beth might as well just skip the HC and let the girls on the roster set the starting lineup.
Talk about "in over her head".
No. You REALLY hate Jan. You have an agenda, like I said. You aren’t happy for her wins but sure AF celebrate her losses. It’s pathetic. S h i t t y fan.Given this year's stats, I doubt she's going to get more $$$ than this season.
She must REALLY hate JJ.
What does Stremlow have to do with this?It wasn't a fit based on Feuerbach and Stremlow...you know, two players that would be affected by any guard signed.
Oh, and apparently JJ was getting advice from some parents.
Fvcking ridiculous if all true.
Question...why on earth would you hope Addie Deal lives up to her hype AFTER she leaves???No. You REALLY hate Jan. You have an agenda, like I said. You aren’t happy for her wins but sure AF celebrate her losses. It’s pathetic. S h i t t y fan.
It seems personal. Lol.No. You REALLY hate Jan. You have an agenda, like I said. You aren’t happy for her wins but sure AF celebrate her losses. It’s pathetic. S h i t t y fan.
You literally think Geno never asked Sue Bird or Stewie or Paige what they thought of a recruit?? Don’t be naive. You don’t know a fourth of what you think you do about running a program. I’m embarrassed for you.You really think Geno, Staley, Mulkey, and the UCLA coach operate like this?
I have my doubts.
Don't be naive.
She was a stud at Johnston. Multiple coaches got her wrong.Things happen..wasn't Jada a top 50 coming out of high school? Something like 39?
Loved the that she was a great teammate and friend even if her basketball wasn't what (I assume) what she wanted.
You’re already rooting against MW. No doubt…because agenda.Well, given what Deal was rated, maybe everyone except the top 3/4 are subject to question?
Given her lack of an outside shot and athleticism, Deal was overrated.
Now, the hope has to be that MW has success immediately, because kids will jump after one season.
JJ will be under the microscope next year. Might even be a situation where JJ has to start MW immediately?
WTF are you talking about? After she leaves? No clue what you mean.Question...why on earth would you hope Addie Deal lives up to her hype AFTER she leaves???
That's beyond stupid, especially if she potentially ends up at a school like UCLA or Oregon!
Or was that post sarcasm?
BTW: I don't hate Jensen, just think there should have been a search.

Doesn't mean a player can't state their intention to enter portal.Portal doesn't even open until April 6.
Every single team is going to have multiple transfers and there will be reasons why behind all of them. This is a nothing burger every team will go through and I bet we lose a couple more and gain 3 or 4.Given how the Iowa program in multiple sports has been promoted as a "cultural" environment, this story is definitely believable.
See post #286...no one in their right mind wants it known that the HC isn't running things.
The fact that this story is floating on the interwebz is not good PR.
You have an agenda as well? Pot meet kettle. You constantly are defending her. If you take the position it comes with criticism.No. You REALLY hate Jan. You have an agenda, like I said. You aren’t happy for her wins but sure AF celebrate her losses. It’s pathetic. S h i t t y fan.
If Journey leaves I don’t know nothing no more.Don't laugh at ISU. Iowa is down to a roster of 8. If this gets worse, and I believe it will, MW may ask back out and Iowa will grant her wish. Indiana went through this last year, and you see what happened to them. I see Hayes to Washington, Teegan to Wisconsin, Rodriguez back to Florida area, Just DO NOT lose JOURNEY. Iowa is headed to about 10th to 14th in league next year. Jan messed up High school recruiting this year and Rodriguez washed out. Chit came with the Assistant Coach
All recruits (and players for that matter) need to earn their playing time. I think Woliczko will earn it in preseason practice and non-conference games. She has too much talent not too.I think the tale on Deal transferring is obvious when you look at the box score of our last game: 4 minutes played to Stremlow’s 49.
Now, Stremlow was objectively better down the stretch and earned the staring role. But it’s easy to see why Deal may have felt aggrieved.
And with most of our guards underclassmen, with only more on their way, is it really any mystery why she transferred? I don’t think we need to invoke anything about our culture or offensive philosophy or whatever to understand this one.
I do wish we would’ve stayed. I was interested in seeing what kind of player she could’ve developed into. Who is anywhere near their peak as a freshman?
It does bring up an interesting point about highly rated recruits going forward. Do you need to give them extra playing time up front, or risk losing them to the portal? Are we about to see Woliczko play the majority of the game from the jump, regardless of how she performs initially? I do at least hope she is given more of a leash than Deal was.
Seems like a lot of folks here wanted her gone anyway, so.....That came out of nowhere!
Agree with all this, Iowa doesn’t have the luxury of sitting 5 star recruits. They aren’t UConn!I think the tale on Deal transferring is obvious when you look at the box score of our last game: 4 minutes played to Stremlow’s 49.

When none of the guards can shoot or creat their own shot you are left looking inside. Deal was underwhelming to me. Slow feet, poor ball handling and decision making. Inconsistent shooting and defense wasn't especially good either.Jan's offense is not setup to let guards really be successful. She wants to pound the post good guards going to play in a system more suited to them. That is why Deal wanted to come to Iowa to begin with was Lisa's style. Jan ducked up and changed it all
And how did the rest of the team play in those losses. like the west coast trip? Like crap right. It must have been Deal, That probably while Kylie didnt score a point in the NCAA tournament as well....I guess we'll see how this plays out. I know everyone loves potential, but the portal era doesn't really allow for that. Deal played just as much as she could on a team with 7 losses. Three of those losses are games she started.
Really? Well hopefully it won't be when she's playing against us...True. I just don’t think this group will suddenly be a mid pack team. Portal will be huge to determine. I’m hoping Deal starts playing to her rating.
Deal had exactly one good game before starting on the west coast trip. When none of the guards can shoot or creat their own shot you are left looking inside. Deal was underwhelming to me. Slow feet, poor ball handling and decision making. Inconsistent shooting and defense wasn't especially good either.
Or Hays. She looked about as comfortable as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs at the end of the season....Sounds like 2 more will be entering the portal. My guess is Emely and Teagen.
