174 QF Mat 4- #1 Levi Haines vs. #9 Colin Kelly (ILL)

Period 1:
Collar ties, head taps & hand fighting to start us off. Levi presses forward a bit. Kelly works back to center. Levi drops to a leg, elevates it & tries to trip Kelly to the mat, but no luck. He keeps working & finishes the TD, 3-0. Out of bounds & restart. Kelly is still down. Levi breaks down Kelly to his belly & throws in a boot. Levi goes over 1-min of riding time. Kelly gets a stall warning, 1-min left. Levi's working an arm bar & a wrist. Stoppage & restart for something. Kelly is still down. He works to a quadpod for a moment. Levi throws in a boot & gets Kelly on his belly again. Levi rides out the period. 3-0 Levi, +2:12 RT

Period 2:
Levi takes down. He pops to his feet, gets hand control & the escape, 4-0. Tying up & hand fighting again. Kelly reaches for a leg, but can't get there. Levi shoots, gets a leg & finishes the TD, 7-0. Levi quickly gets Kelly to his belly on the Resilite. Levi cuts Kelly, 7-1. Tying up & hand fighting again. Levi shoots, but can't get there. He shoots again & finishes another TD, 11-1. I think Levi got a stalling point before the TD. Levi rides out the period. 11-1 Levi, +3:02 RT

Period 3:
Kelly takes neutral. Levi works to a leg & finishes another TD, 14-1. Levi cuts Kelly, 14-2. Levi shoots, but can't finish. He shoots again, gets a leg & finishes the TD for the 17-2 Techfall!

184 QF Mat 2- #1 Rocco Welsh vs. #8 Angelo Ferrari (IA)

Period 1:
Another big match. Let's go Rocco! Circling & hand fighting with some face tapping. Tying up now. Rocco reaches for a leg, but can't get there. Rocco with a half shot. Ferrari drops down to a knee briefly. He's spending less time on his knees in this match, but has used a tripod stance. Rocco reaches for a leg, but can't get there. More tying up & hand fighting in the center, 1-min left. More of the same for a bit. The crowd is booing every time Ferrari drops to a knee. Rocco reaches again, but doesn't come close. He shoots just before the buzzer, but Ferrari blocks him off. 0-0

Period 2:
Ferrari has a bloody nose before the start of the 2nd. Ferrari takes down. He works to a tripod. Rocco hangs heavy on the top, then drops to a leg & elevates it. He puts it on his shoulder & takes Ferrari out, restart. Ferrari is still down. Ferrari works to his feet & gets the escape, 1-0. Rocco has 44-sec riding time. Out of bounds & neutral restart, 1:13 left. Circling, head tapping & tying up. Ferrari shoots & gets his hands locked around a leg. He lifts Rocco off the mat, then brings him back down & shoots, but Rocco fights out of it. Wow! Fantastic defense by Rocco. Out of bounds & neutral restart. Circling & hand fighting again. Rocco shoots, but Ferrari blocks him off & time expires. 1-0 Ferrari, Rocco +44-sec RT

Period 3:
Rocco takes down. He works to his feet, but can't get hand control & Ferrari takes him out of bounds, restart. Rocco is still down. He pops to his feet & quickly gets the escape this time, 1-1. Rocco still has 32-sec of riding time. Circling & then tying up. Ferrari drops to both knees & hears it from the crowd. Rocco shoots, but Ferrari circles away, 1-min left. Rocco shoots, but Ferrari blocks him off. Ferrari reaches for a leg, but can't get there. Stoppage & restart for something, 33-sec left. Circling, hand fighting, then tying up. More of the same to end the period. 1-1

SV:
Circling, hand fighting & tying up. Rocco shoots, but Ferrari blocks him off. Ferrari shoots & gets a leg. He lifts Rocco off the mat, then brings him back. Rocco gets a whizzer as they come back down & is trying to fight off Ferrari. They're on the edge now. Ferrari pulls Rocco back onto the mat, but Rocco fights free, no scoring. Great defense by Rocco again! Out of bounds & neutral restart. Circling & head tapping. Rocco shoots & gets a leg on the edge. They scramble for a bit. Ferrari is out of bounds & Rocco can't pull him back in, no scoring. Stalemate & neutral restart. Circling to end the period. 1-1

TB1:
Rocco takes down. He pops to his feet, gets hand control & gets the escape in 9-sec! Tying up again. Ferrari shoots, but Rocco blocks him off. Rocco reaches, but no luck & time expires.

TB2:
Ferrari takes down. The coaches give Rocco some pointers before the period starts. Ferrari works up & gets the escape, 2-2, but Rocco still has 4-sec of riding time. There's a flurry of action & they go out of bounds. Rocco gets a stall warning. Ferrari goes back to the corner for a bloody lip, 6-seconds left. Back to action. Ferrari gets to a leg, but can't finish before time expires. What a match!!!

Those Rutgers are hard to deal with. They’re machine-like.
