I thought Max had the TD on the mat return but listening to Pyles recap he said upon review the official clock was at 0.09 seconds when Rocco’s back first touched the mat on his granby attempt. If that’s a fact then I agree with the no takedown call.

that was a correct call on the illegal hold. No surprise that it was upheld on the independent review.

Manning is an idiot to challenge that, and then to bark at the refs.
I was watching the replay on the screen and it was obvious as heck. What surprised me was that Snyder was still screaming at the mat judge, who called it initially, after the review and the review left no doubts.

Heck Snyder was still screaming at him after the match.

I think manning is a joke, general like Snyder, not sure from where they were sitting, they had the angle to see the figure 4

This. From the time they hit the mat with 1 second left to the time the clock expires, McEnelly was in a control position. The entire time no matter where you stop it.

This is a classic bad official understanding of control (something you used to see mostly only at the lower levels of wrestling). You don't have to completely stop your opponent's movement to be in control. You have to gain control criteria beyond reaction time. Behind both arms, supporting points down, on top for a full second here. Welsh trying and failing to roll underneath does nothing to disrupt McEnelly's control.

Again, I retract the PSU slander. This is only the latest example of this problem, not the entire problem. Next time it may burn you guys and I will be just as mad!
Duke/Taylor last time, it happens. Ben asked that something to say about this. Just get your offense on early and don't depend on one last second call.

I have followed Penn State wrestling since 1969, travelled all across the country, mostly driving in the early years. I just watched one of the greatest semis and finals in Penn State history, I was off the couch watching most of the matches, yelling.

I click on this site and 90% of what I see is a bunch of whiners, you would have never made it through the Sunderland years, toughen up.

I'm still celebrating so that means I'm staying away from here for a couple of days, too much negativity gets contagious. Carry on, see you at nationals.

Not to dig up the Dead Horse. ☠️🫏
But Pyles states around 1146 mark that the replay official told him there was less than a second (0.9 seconds officially) when Rocco shoulders hit the mat. No takedown, disclaimer: the opinions of the host or the content of this episode, Don't necessarily reflect the opinions of the poster

Ha, I just wrote this in a story that's about to be published. I feel like the argument for most is centering on whether or not it was a takedown, not whether or not there was any time left on the clock. Good for Pyles for getting an explanation.
