Full Penn State results through 174​

The Penn State bonus point machine is rolling to start the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships. The Lions are 7-0 through 174 pounds with three technical falls, two pins, a major decision, and a decision. See full bout recaps below:

125 pounds: No. 1 Luke Lilledahl, Penn State md. No. 32 Mack Mauger of Missouri, 11-2

The Nittany Lion scored three takedowns and tacked on 1:42 in riding time en route to victory. His takedowns came in the second (one) and third (two) after a scoreless first period. Lilledahl also tacked on 1:42 in riding time.

133 pounds: No. 3 Marcus Blaze, PSU TF No. 30 Gabe Whisenhunt of Oregon State, 17-2 (5:30)

Blaze scored a takedown halfway through the first period to lead 3-0 after one. In the second, he chose down, quickly escaped, and shot and scored to swell his lead to 7-1. The Nittany Lion then fended off a Whisenhunt shot and won the scramble for his third takedown and a 10-1 lead and then tilted for four nearfall and a 15-1 lead after two. In the third, Whisenhunt chose down, escaped, and Blaze took him down for the 17-2 technical fall in 5:30.

141 pounds: No. 14 Braeden Davis, Penn State d. No. 19 Haiden Drury, Utah Valley, 2-0

Davis won his opener on the strength of a second-period rideout and third-period escape. He didn’t generate much offense while wrestling with a wrap on his right hand.

149 pounds: No. 1 Shayne Van Ness, PSU TF No. 33 Austin McBurney of Brown, 19-4 (5:34)

Van Ness racked up six takedowns en route to a 19-4 technical fall over No. 33 Austin McBurney of Brown in 5:34. The Nittany Lion scored 13 points in the second period en route to victory in his 149-pound opener.

157 pounds: No. 1 PJ Duke, Penn State F No. 33 Yannis Charles of Morgan State, 1:55

Duke hit a single leg takedown early in the first for a 3-0 lead. He then racked up two more takedowns before pinning Charles at the 1:55 mark of the first period to win at 157.

165 pounds: No. 1 Mitchell Mesenbrink, PSU TF No. 32 Cody Walsh of Drexel, 21-5 (4:45)

No. 1 Mitchell Mesenbrink took out No. 32 Cody Walsh of Drexel by technical fall, 21-5, in 4:45. He scored seven takedowns en route to a win his 165-pound opener.

174 pounds: No. 1 Levi Haines, Penn State F No. 33 Grant O’Dell of Bellarmine, 1:33

Haines took O'Dell down early in the first period, tilted him for four nearfall points, and eventually settled in to earn the pin at the 1:33 mark of the first period.

Most refs would appreciate it if such education was offered to fans and coaches.
Tom, pn the toe out of bounds one, a questeion. To me, it looked like his feet were within bounds (vertical plane of the mat edge) but up in the air, and came down in bounds. If that were the case, how would the rule apply?

184- #1 Rocco Welsh vs. #32 Caleb Uhlenhopp (UVU)

Period 1:
Uhlenhopp is very tall. Here we go. Circling, tying up & hand fighting. Rocco tries an underhook to a drag, but no luck. Rocco works some snaps & reaches for a low leg, but can't finish. Rocco goes back to the underhook, then drops to a leg & comes behind for the TD, 3-0. Rocco cuts Uhlenhopp, 3-1. Tying up & hand fighting. Uhlenhopp tries a 2 on 1. Rocco reaches for a leg. Rocco picks an ankle, but Uhlenhopp kicks free. The scoreboard clock is out now. Rocco with some snaps. Uhlenhopp reaches for a leg, but Rocco circles free. Rocco shoots a double, but Uhlenhopp blocks him off. Rocco pushes Uhlenhopp out. Uhlenhopp gets a stall warning, neutral restart. Rocco hits a quick single for another TD, 6-1. Uhlenhopp works to a tripod, but Rocco is pressuring heavily from top. Uhlenhopp works to his feet, but Rocco drops to a leg & takes him out of bounds, restart. Uhlenhopp is still down. Uhlenhopp tries to come up, but Rocco rides out the period. 6-1 Rocco (no riding time clock)

Period 2:
Uhlenhopp takes down. Rocco goes optional. Escape Uhlenhopp, 6-2. Tying up & hand fighting with head taps. The riding time clock came back & Rocco is at 1:01. Rocco shoots & finishes another TD, 9-2. Rocco cuts Uhlenhopp, 9-3. Uhlenhopp reaches for a leg, but Rocco fights him off. Heavy collar ties & hand fighting in the center. Stoppage for something, restart. Head taps & circling, then tying up. Rocco shoots, but can't get there. He picks an ankle & finishes another TD, 12-3. Uhlenhopp works to his feet, but time expires. 12-3 Rocco (riding time clock disappeared)

Period 3:
Rocco takes down. He pops to his feet & gets the escape, 13-3. Tying up & circling. The riding time clock reappeared & Rocco is at +1:29. Uhlenhopp reaches, Rocco counters & finishes another TD, 16-3. Rocco cuts Uhlenhopp, 16-4. Rocco shoots, but Uhlenhopp blocks him off. Stalemate & restart, 44-sec left. RT point is locked. Uhlenhopp shoots, but no luck. Rocco drops to a leg, then finishes another TD for the 19-4 techfall!

Not Tom, but it's a cylinder that goes the whole way to the ceiling, so hypothetically, your feet can be off the mat and if they're still within the cylinder, it's a takedown. I agree with his coaches, the takedown could have and maybe should have been called sooner, but that's why you have to score points during regulation.....
