I don't follow highschool wrestling that closely but I definitely remember concerns about his offense. He got to PSU and became a different man, that's for sure. Incredible to watch.

It was somewhat guilt by association with his HS teammate Facundo.

Both shot straight-on in HS. Facundo didn't adapt and couldn't create offense, and went 0-2 at RSFR nationals. Could a HS/club teammate with a decade of the same training change in ways Facundo couldn't?

Barr put those concerns to rest, and then some.

Barr also just has that dawg in him.

Period 1:
Here we go. Circling & hand fighting. Composto presses forward a bit. Davis shoots, but no luck. He shoots again, but Composto blocks him off. Collar ties & hand fighting. Davis tries a 2 on 1. Stalemate & restart. Hand fighting & circling, then tying up. Composto pushes forward a bit. He shoots & gets to a leg. Davis counters & gets a leg too. They're head to feet & it's a stalemate. Davis shoots & gets a leg off the whistle. Composto rolls & gets a leg too. Davis locks around the waist & tries to lift. He rolls onto his back, then adjusts. Stalemate & restart. Hand fighting & circling, then some collar ties. More of the same to end the period. 0-0

Period 2:
Composto takes down. He rolls, but Davis stays with him. Composto gets an ankle & turns into Davis for the reversal, 2-0. Davis sits out, gets hand control & the escape, 2-1. Davis reaches for a leg, but Composto blocks him off. Composto shoots, but Davis blocks him off. Davis goes back to the 2 on 1 & they break. Composto shoots & gets in deep on a leg. Davis locks around the chest. Composto works up to his base. Davis rolls. Composto pops his head out & finishes the TD, 5-1. Composto rides out the final few seconds of the period. 5-1 Composto

Period 3:
Davis takes down. He tries to pop up, but Composto breaks him down. Davis keeps working & gets the escape, 5-2. Circling, hand fighting & collar ties. Davis with a half shot, Composto counters, but Davis high steps away. Davis is picking up the pressure taking Composto to the edge. He shoots & Composto counters. Davis adjusts & squares up. Composto keeps driving forward. Davis locks around the waist & is trying to lift Composto over. Out of bounds & restart. Davis lunges forward. He takes Composto to the edge then throws some head swipes. Composto gets a stall warning. Out of bounds & restart. Davis comes forward, but time expires.

I dont disagree, but I would like it if some of the non-traditional powers would join in sometimes. I thought NCST would be it, but they just crumble when the lights are on. VT doesn't seem to fare much better.
