He did, though to be completely fair there's nothing in the Olympic Shirt rules saying that you must compete during that year -- which makes sense, you wouldn't want someone to lose a year of NCAA eligibility while training freestyle because he got hurt in practice.

Ferrari of course abused that. He never intended to compete. That year was about staying out of trouble and rehabilitating his image into merely a knucklehead, so that some sucker would let him transfer in.
There’s a simple way to fix this. If you don’t even quality for the Oly trials, then you don’t get an ORS. If you can’t even qualify for the trials, your Olympic quest was never serious. Facundo took an ORS because he was forced out of the lineup by MM, but at least he trained freestyle and made the trials, even if he was never going to actually make the team. That’s the minimum that should be done to earn an ORS.

@johnstownsteel , I’d love a full report from HR on whether the Iowa fans are pissed at Angelo for bailing on the consis, and hurting their chances at a team trophy.

Also, will there be any pot stirring re Angelo, from our favorite Iowa tormentor?

Drake finishes 5th. One of the more interesting careers to have followed. From that comeback victory over McKee his freshman year to the loss by fall to Spencer at the Soldier Salute, a couple of appearances in the finals and three AA’s.

Hard no.

The point of the Olympic Shirt is the long-term development of future world team (including depth) capable of winning world titles. No need to disturb that just because one jackass abused the system to our distaste, but with little to no actual damage to the sport.

The incentive created above would effectively destroy the Olympic Shirt. If you don't qualify for any reason -- including injury or illness -- then you lose a year of NCAA eligibility. Why would anybody take that risk?

Add onto that: the Olympic Shirt allows athletes to not enroll in school that year in order to train full-time. So if you get sick or injured and miss Trials, and get your Olympic Shirt revoked, then you're also academically ineligible for the next NCAA year. Again, why would anybody do this?

If you don’t qualify due to injury or illness, then you can get a medical RS instead.

ESPN too busy with a full view 5th place match. 🙄
You have to get ESPN plus. I find it a pain in the *** to navigate on Apple TV but I don't miss too much. You could move around or the Matt cast channel and click on the match. You'd like to see or you could move through the screens available and just go to it from there, but they don't seem to have the match listed as one through whatever they seem to be in some random order
