It’s not at all.

I don’t believe Penn State has had a guy stay 4 years at 197 yet? Correct me if wrong.

Again, like you said, don’t know how likely. But it wouldn’t be crazy if they think it’s best for the kid and the team.
Was morgan mc a 197 pounder i forget

No. Look, it’s splitting hairs, but before last year, PSU had 26 one-seeds under Cael and produced 21 champions from them. That’s 81%.

The past 2 years we’ve had 11 one-seeds. If Luke wins, it’ll be 6 champs. That’s 55%.
Like I said, there are more guys lately getting those one-seeds, and there are more/better offseason international results, but it’s something that has happened nonetheless.
I think a) competition is better b) finals are usually about 50-50. So the previous results were anomalous. Not a reasonable expectation in most weights. Ask Spencer and Mendez. Starrocci is the ultimate exception

Very happy and grateful for the team's performance and finish, but bittersweet in some ways, especially for for SVN (and also PJ). Shayne is one of my favorites and just wish he could have finished on some of his shots and ended up in this photo. I noticed he still did his trademark bow, even in defeat.

P.S. As posted earlier, Trumble is a mountain of a man - wow! 😲

No belts for our guys in this pic. At both BiG’s and in Cleveland our guys gave those ugly things away as fast as they could. Belts is probably a Tan Tom idea.

NCAA hasn't posted the video of the 197 final. I'll place this here, and will update when the video is posted.

I heard that the takedown PJ had in the semis but was taken away, was 4 to 3 vote, not saying who broke the 3-3 tie because I can't confirm it.

Yeah...Coney island been around for a very long time and once a staple of the community. Hasn't been the same since the owners sold out a few years ago. It actually a reflection of what has become of the entire town if ya ask me.
Just saw this after I replied to my earlier post about Coney Island. Apologies

Ok back on topic. It was disappointing hearing about Caliendo’s post finals behavior. I can appreciate that he felt frustrated that his goal of a national championship was stopped because of one guy who was just way better, but that’s no excuse for declining a friendly and respectful gesture. It also doesn’t help Iowa’s public image.

If true, that pisses me off even more. Wouldn't you presume that given the gravity of the situation that they would really want to get that one right and that you'd wish it was unanimous? I'm still unwilling to believe that "the fix was in", but I still just can't understand how badly they could have bitched that one. And, the call on the mat was takedown, so they weren't confirming, but rather overruling, which has a higher standard in my opinion. Bastards.

I have one comment.

Hand fighting is killing the watchability of this sport.
Literally because NCAA Wrestling thought it was too hard to call.

One of our best posters on BSD dug this up from the last year's Rules Committee:

Only a committee full of smart people couldn't foresee the new incentive for strategic stalling.

Also, freed from the burden of having to identify finger-lacing violations, the refs forgot what a takedown is.
freestyle tries to address it with passivity and sometimes gets it wrong but at least someone is on the hook for getting going.

and the Watters Cannon TD review underscored just how ridiculous the Duke No TD ruling was.
McEnelly is a big dude, clearly, based on the picture with all the champions. He looked to be physically bigger than Barr. He's also a freak athlete, incredibly explosive and has fantastic feet. From a pure size and athleticism perspective, IMO he's in a league of his own in the 184 weight class.

I've noticed the same. Even the guys who supposedly have a brutal cut (Duke) still don't look big at all for their weight class.
Duke may not look it which might lead opponents to wonder where the bulldozer came from.

If you watched on ESPN, you would have seen that Cody was super POd and saying some very angry things to someone. If there’s any post season official review board, you can bet that this one is going to get some serious attention. What’s worse is that we saw two other very similar situations in the finals where the takedown was awarded. Someone better have a good explanation.
