I am not much of a Mendez fan but you certainly have to like how he competes... He's bullied everyone at his weight this year and his confidence got him... I think he wins this match 8 out of 10 times.
I'm not trying to argue but my understanding is if he could get the pin meaning more points he would allow the match to continue. That's the travesty here the ref should have let pj continue for a pin unless there was significant amount of time that would dictate it wasn't happening. 2 more seconds it could have been a pin. Like i said thats just my interpretation not saying you sre wrong
Why did the NCAA decide to allow finger grabbing? The sport is looking for more action, and they gave wrestlers another stalling tool.
Speaking of more action, I like the pushout rule. It would have to be applied only when wrestlers are in neutral, though. Not when action begins from the referee's position.
No transfer portal as we know it today, but getting Andrew Long from Iowa State (suspended) made a huge difference in finishing first v second to Cornell.
In an OT situation it is first points scored wins. If a TD is secured without exposure and swipes being immediately secured then the match is over. If as PJ broke Robideau to his hip and in a single fluid motion taken him to his back, the winner would have been determined but action would have been allowed to continue to see if he could secure a fall. The instant the ref determined there was indeed a takedown but there was any pause in the continuation to Robideau's back the match was over. There is no need to continue the action.
There is only a singular idiot who was wrong in this situation, the review official. Basically what he did was say, I cannot see anything technically wrong with the mat official's call but my opinion is he should have granted a longer reaction time. The mat officials call from an objective measurement was correct and complete. The review official interjected his subjective opinion into the match which is not the role of the review official.
Name for me one TD that involves interlocking your fingers with your opponents? Clearly, doing so is stalling and it should be treated as such.
Someone mentioned here is was a 4-3 vote by the review officials to overturn the call. Are there really 7 officials reviewing every challenged call? Can anyone confirm that? If that is true, it's even more egregious that 4 officials didn't see the cradle as a toakedown!
Snyder is unique with his freakish build. He's more Mr. Incredible in build than Josh. Photos can be deceptive, but I was surprised how small Josh looked standing next to Trumble.
Good question. I don't know. I agree with you, 4 officials feeling it appropriate to interject their subjective opinion into the discussion is egregious. They are there to review a situation to see is a black and white situation was an appropriate call or not.

The match stops in OT once the takedown occurs unless he takedown puts the guy on his back in NF criteria 45 degrees.
Bad rumor the review booth had 3 refs who were there permanently and then one in rotation so 4 reviewers max at one time . 4-3 vote was a rumor
The match ends when the takedown is awarded and that happened before NF criteria was established

Because OSU had a near perfect tournament. Pretty much nobody outside of Stillwater expected Vega and Robideaux to win it all or Merrill to make the finals. I was guilty of the same thought process 24hrs after the finals. Once the dust clears and people start looking logically at the math, the OSU and NCAA championship talk will die down...at least until next fall.

For the same reason our fans and some other paid Iowa haters were talking about our four individual champs in '21 even though Iowa won the title.
It was also funny to hear Casey tell Mitchell to just take his one when he was on bottom leading by 14. Mitchell said to himself, "Nope. I'm gonna' jump over him for the reversal." : )
Imagine how intimidating it is for opponents to look across the mat and see those three guys every time you wrestle a Penn State guy. Brutal.
In order for psu to win we have to have a good tournament. For okies to win they need to have a great tournament AND we have to have a bad tournament big difference. My opinion for the next 4 to 5 years is okie state will need us to have a bad tournament in order to win. That brings it down to coaching and I'll take our coaching staff over anybody's
Anyone notice that the NCAA official YouTube channel still hasn't uploaded Josh Barr's finals match? All other 9 finals matches are on there. I presume it's because of his post match speech, but I obviously can't prove that. Whatever the reason, it's frustrating because I want to re-watch it!

Penn State wrestling dominated the competition a week ago at nationals. Our postseason superlatives wraps up the year.
The end of Haines' finals match ended pretty close to the Nebraska bench. And it appeared that Snider was saying something to Haines, as Levi was trying to shake Minto's hand. Was that noticeable on the broadcast? Any idea if it was cordial, or if snyder was acting like Manning's mini me?
I saw Levi’s reaction which was similar to the JLaw gif below - a kind of “sure, whatever” look. My assumption was that the Nebraska bench was yelling at him about stalling at the end (ignoring Minto doing it for 390 seconds of the match). Levi handled it perfectly.
I have no idea what was said but I doubt it was anything terribly egregious. If out of line I would be willing to bet more than a couple bucks the PSU corner would have said something to the Nebraska corner.
