I saw that the #31 ranked kid in 2027 class, 6'10"
C/f, tyran frazier, attends Des Moines United this year.
He is a St Louis native.
St Louis,Creighton are on him.
Is Missouri Ben's recruiting stronghold?
Wonder if we can get into Des Moines United...we missed the 7'2" guy out of there this year to Houston ( kel sampson whining about lack of nil yet he is able to buy top center in country?).

Most of top 60 recruits in 2027 class are in prep schools.
We need to figure that out

First thing I thought of with Sampson crying is 7 footer from DM United. They also have shabazz the pg who decommitted from Iowa after Fran left and is going to Murray st.

I watched a 20+ min on YouTube few months ago with the owners wife giving a tour of DM United and their facilities. It is insane how nice the facilities and living quarters are. On top of a huge lake house they have access to. It would be nice for BM to get some type of relationship with them.

Saw a note by espn recruiting guy bianacardi where he had a list of top 2026 recruits under radar and he compared Iowa recruit( wake forest commit) quinten coleman out of st Louis as comparable to Wagler of illinois.Said he could stun college bb similarly.
Ben recruited both guys.....

I have to wonder how solid Steve Forbes of WF is right now.
It is his 6th year at WF...no NCAA bids..11-12 this year close to bottom of ACC.

If they moved on,would love to jump back in with Coleman with maybe an enhanced offer....imagine a wagler type player with cam, banks,Combs, koch,Howard Tate,Thompson, harris? Would be worth an investment.

Meh, it’s always been this way. It’s just more out in the open now. Major schools have always had an advantage over smaller programs that had to compete against better facilities, bigger arenas, and in many cases actual payment. I don’t see a huge difference today. If anything, the free transfer rule is creating more imbalance than the money ever did.
Probably true. In retrospect does it makes sense for fans of teams like ours to complain about lack of success? Has to make you really appreciate the job that KF has done for Iowa football....

Michigan State wins because they have great coaching and talent. If Ben can get some higher end kids to buy into the culture and mix with the hard working maybe overlooked kids he will always have in the program I think he can find a way to make this work. He knew what he signed up for stepping into this level after we have NIL and the portal already in place.

Just like in football we have to do things our way and not fret that other programs have more financial resources. That makes it hard to enjoy what we have.
This is what I was talking about. For all the complaints Kirks been remarkably successful and consistent given the obstacles.

I watched PMac hit 19 threes straight, in slacks and dress shoes when he had some injury or illness a few years ago. Didn’t carry over to his game time makes.
Did it really take you a month and a half to come with this dumb AF comment?

Does anyone think Ben will ask a player in 2027 to reclass to 2026 like he did with Trey Thompson? I think that move is especially attractive to a PG after seeing Bennetts massive success this year.

When's the last time Iowa only had one high school commitment in a recruiting class when there was not a coaching change?

Haven't figured this one out yet Fran. Ben has commented that the recruiting cycle starts earlier at this level. He also leans towards developing talent. We need point guards and reading recruiting threads it appears we had some on the radar for 26 but no commitments. So a portal point guard seems in order.

I can only say things all of a sudden haven't gone as expected. I await to see how things play out on the recruiting front

We lose banks, stirtz, hausen to graduation.
That leaves:
SRS.
Combs
Alvaro
Cam

Jrs.
Howard

Soph
Koch
Tate
Jirak
Matteoni

Fr
Harris
Thompson

That is 10 scholly guys next year..probably add 2 minimum from portal?
Combs and Howard only true guards ..maybe Tate if you stretch.

Yes and I would add this. Sage represents the classic wing type Ben likes so much. I see him starting at the 2 next season unless you slot Combs there who adds versatility with the ability to play at either guard spot. Another reason why it has baffled me that Tate's role has reduced lately. I think Sage playing more tonight seems a key to having a shot. He has some game for a freshman.

We're currently offering '28 guys, and the '26 guys haven't graduated yet. The fact that McCollum got two, EXTREMELY high level hybrids in the '26 class after taking the job in March, and not recruiting them prior, is insane to me. He's playing catch up on the recruiting trail and has been for the last year. It's going to take the '28/'29 guys for him to fully "catch up".

Having said that, we desperately need to capitalize on the new hire/excitement of the program. There is only so much time to keep the momentum going....and we have looked like complete **** lately which doesn't help.

Ben thinks he can get a PG out of the portal. Hopefully he can and we can afford him. ;)

My guess is Ben is going to get 1 or 2 portal guys and 1 or 2 euro guys. Just a hunch.

Iowa needs donors badly. Who is guiding that ship? I say this not having all the information, so please take it with a grain of salt, but what exactly has SWARM done to better our NIL position compared to other programs? Someone needs to dig into that deeply.

Money talks and right now we’re a mime. Looking at hs kids are commiting all over but nary a peep at Iowa. If we’re waiting on transfer portal targets we’re f’d why you say if we can’t afford hs kids how in the hell can we pay a very good transfer.

Missing Peyton McCollum from this list.

I haven’t found anywhere that lists him as a walk-on.

I fully expect him to compete for the point guard spot next year.

Walk-on or not, it doesn’t matter as much anymore. Teams are allowed 15 roster spots (with all players allowed to be on scholarship)

Yes and I think Peyton can play but probably not at a level we need to make the rotation. Seems a good piece to have for depth. Bring in some point guards and let Peyton guard the hell out of them in practice.

Thanks that makes more sense to me. Peyton strikes me as a very team oriented guy maybe as a coach's son. I loved the stories early on about how hard he defends in practice. But I don't see him competing for the starting position.

Is Peyton projected to seeing meaningful minutes anytime soon?

Good question. Think it depends on how point guard recruiting goes. Ben wants a portal point and a high school point to develop. I recall reading that Peyton could have had lower level offers had he not chosen to play for his dad and help out here.

I hope we can get more than a 1 year rental at PG.

I can't wait to see what Trey Thompson looks like. Ben has said his offense has never been the issue and that his defense is getting there.
