I know a school open weeks 1 & 2 that would be a competitive game for both these.
Looks like Quincy ND is open week 2 per the IHSA site. That would be a decent fit for Wilmo.
But a heck of a drive for a nonconference game. There are other possibilities that likely would fit better for both teams.
I realize the listings on IHSA.org might not be all inclusive, but the only other week 2 I see listed next year that fits for a 2A/3A is Ridgewood out of Norridge.
Despite the playoffs expansion, I doubt there would be much mutual interest for Wilmo to play Brother Rice, Providence, Naz, St Ignatius or York.
Is there another website that has a more comprehensive list of open dates?
I wonder what date the ESL Classic is on this year since the schedule change? Since they played in it the past two years it wouldn't surprise me if it is open because of that....

I would be interested in a SF/JCA game. They have missed each other in crossovers and playoffs the past 3 years (granted different classes last year for playoffs).As far as I know, JCA still doesn't have a game for week 1 or 2
No such luck. The listings on the IHSA are put up by the schools and not always taken down promptly when filled. Same thing with the IHSFCA website. Many schools advertise them on social media only, or not at all. Compiling schedules at this point of the year is a difficult task, as they exist on several different sites (if they're put up at all) and sometimes contradict each other. CPS schedules simply don't exist and many teams have posted nothing. For those of us who aren't paid to report on these things and don't have inside connections (i.e. Soucie), getting our schedules together are a labor of intensive searching and reasonable conclusion-drawing until the IHSA releases the schedules in the summer.

The one positive with the new playoff rules is it doesn’t punish a team like SF or JCA playing each other week 1 as the fight for 5 is no longer. Would love to see that be the opener this year.
No disrespect to Wilmington at all it’s an incredible program but given the size / playoff class difference I could understand why they may not want to play JCA in the non-conference.

I hear you, but Wilmington finished the season ranked 23 in the state. I think they would be the underdogs, shouldnt be a running clock. Right?
Contrary to my earlier post on this, I am being told now this is, in fact, correct. Not sure what happened when I was told that they had a CCL opponenent scheduled for their week 2 game.
If Wilmo has a really great edition vs a run of the mill Hilltoppers squad, they could keep the clock from running - but it would still be a JCA win and likely a comfortable one.
As for next year, Wilmo lost quite a bit. They will probably be in decent shape for a 2A or 3A playoff run, but a week 2 game vs JCA probably wouldn’t go well.
Wilmo had maybe not their best ever last year, but they were really good, and they still lost to Morris.

All.... I noticed as of this morning the Wilmimgton listing for a week two game on the Ihsa board is gone. Anyone know if it has been filled? Among a bunch of others SHG reached out to them a couple of months ago. With the Wildcats week 1 game against Mac another Catholic team might not be the road they feel would be the way to go.
Speaking of the Cyclones they continue the search for a week two game. A couple of issues they are dealing with is just a one year deal and would like a home game as opposed to a schedule of 6 away games. They might have to forgo that.
ilo.8to18.org still shows Montini in search of a w1 and w2 game and the Ihsa board does as well although showing for 25/26. Is that correct? Those Cyclone /Bronco non con games from years past were fun.... Ratsy
All.... I saw that this morning. Chances are they are still looking. Was giddy on Monday when I noticed SHG was off the Ihsa board and it lasted two days. Then it pops up again on Wednesday. Sigh.... Ratsy
Good to see WWS host Naperville Central in week 1, this is great rivalry game from the past, they have played close 100 times.

Nothing like playing the defending 7A, 6A, 4A state champs in Illinois - as well as Rita and Naz. And then deciding to go play arguably the best team in Indiana and a fringe top 100 team nationally according to Maxpreps for the opener. SF ain’t afraid to play anyone that’s for sure.

I received a text from a QND coach about Carbondale. I said "cool, long drive for them, don't hear much about Carb football" in response. Never asked about Wilmo... Coach M never supplied a reason. QND doesn't care about Wilmo. And that's meant from a stance of needing them to fill a schedule. And if you need to hear it, we'd lose 9 out of 10 to them, which is what made the idea of Wilmo ducking comp so funny to me personally.
Saying that to tell you that you are technically right though, I don't know why QND isn't playing Wilmo. My comments were in reference to a situation last season or maybe even two seasons ago now involving Loyola and an open date. A team got scratched from the ESL event and a handful of posters were clambering that Loyola should take the game. At some point the joke was made that Loyola was "ducking comp" not wanting to take the game on short notice. It was a running joke for maybe 12 hours and then forgotten about. That's all I was referencing man... Hope that helps brother. I guess I thought all that was obvious when we were talking about title-less QND and multi-time champion Wilmington. lol
