Spell hurts from a momentum and optics perspective more than anything. Yes, RBs are a dime a dozen, and we should be able to replace him with other talent - this is PSU, we'll always have good backs.
But we do need to get this '27 ball rolling and having a 5* top-10 in-state kid on the board in February would've helped. Montgomery, Alexander, and Slagle (sooner rather than later) would be a great initial boost.

How many times does a coach want to recruit the same player? This could be anyone. They commit, decommit, maybe recommit, commit, want more money after freshman year, enter the portal. As a fan I can deal with twice. Maybe three times for a star. After that I am done.

It's not over with Spell, this is his second commit. One year till next signing day.
It hurts to not get Spell since he was committed to us and is in our backyard. Can we recover? Sure, especially at RB. I guess it is like you bogey your first hole. Not the start we wanted but plenty of time and opportunity to make up for it.
So who are our next targets at RB and their rating? There is the guy from Massachusetts, Isaiah Rogers, who is a 90 rating. Is he a realistic target?

Yeah, hes just outside of the top 500 but would be a good pick up. 300 lb DT from Philly, position of need and local kid.
PSU may not have any big time recruits from 27 yet but they are in on quite a few of the top 100 and dozens of the top 500. Its not just mid atlantic kids either, a few midwest and west coast kids as well with the new coaches expanding the recruiting area
Just a guess but I think we're going to see CMC take more chances on lower ranked kids with good measurables along the OL/DL than he does at the skill positions.
Plus more ‘country’ types. Not the kids who play at privates and go to all the combines.

PS: That #1 ranking was based on only 3 recruits as it was early in the process and not many were committed.
I don't worry about what so called recruiting sites rate players as they are not experts. I trust that the coaches do more thorough evaluations and rank players using different systems that also consider fit to system and team.
All good points. Unfortunately, some of the guys like Spell and Hiller that appear to be headed elsewhere, were evaluated and highly ranked and recruited by the current staff also. They are some big recruiting misses. The new staff may get a pass for the first recruiting cycle, but after that I think they are fair game if they can’t reel in the top guys in PA. It’s going to be even harder now that Pauley jumped ship. He was the big coaching recruiting draw on the offensive side of the ball. Remember, Franklin was skewered by some for missing out on a few highly recruited PA guys.

He should stay in PA and go to PSU. TN? Who are the starting OLs from TN in the NFL? Florida I think the lure is Trautwein. OSU and Bama have a good amount of OL starters in the NFL.
Perhaps if Donkoh, Cousins, and Buhr excel this year, and Goodman takes a leap forward under Clanton's tutelage, PSU can make an impression to have him reconsider?
Missing on some of these top ranked PA kids are likely this year! The turmoil and negativity around the program since the firing would turn off many parents and players. Does it suck that a few top PA recruits will go elsewhere, hell yes! But this is the year that this would be expected. I for one, will hold my critique of the 27 recruiting until the end of fall.
There was no guarantee these 2 top players were staying here anyway, no matter their commitment or not. Millions of dollars are being thrown at these 18 year olds.

IIRC, his younger brother is a top level bball recruit. If they are a package deal, as there is some rumor to that, then PSU doesn’t stand a chance.

A pass on 2027 does not float. When a new staff comes in they tend to generate excitement and many times get a recruiting bump.

The amount of high end talent from the ‘26 and ‘27 classes that is not attending PSU is very disheartening as a fan.
Oops, wrong board. We need a delete function. The other board used to have one and it appears that this board is using the same BB software that that one did, so it also appears that not being able to delete posts is a conscious choice of the board owners, not a limitation of the BB software.

I know that MC has only been at PSU since December but he s not even making final 5/6 lists of way too many guys who either had some PSU interest or are in a primary recruiting footprint.
I guess that patience is the order of the day.
I agree. However, as someone pointed out last week, typically there’s a recruiting bump with a new coaching staff. This is a bit concerning.
