Rumor mill was the Underwood is getting about 10 to12 million over several years in NIL to be at Michigan. I doubt he's ever leaving.

For those that balked at me for saying PSU needs to recruit more blue chips in future classes. DJ Jacobs, the 5,star, top recruit for 2027 committed to Ohio State. He’s out of Georgia and spurned the hometown Bulldogs for Columbus. This is what we are up against.

Maybe. But if one of those 5 stars would turn out like Jeremiah Smith, we would all be pretty happy.Am I alone in the feeling that PSU shouldn't be chasing after a bunch of 5*s in this NIL era? Give me a team full of 4* and high 3* recruits that are committed to the team and working hard to improve their game while making the program better as well.
Ex. Rogers > Spell

So, we shouldn't entertain any 5* players from now on?
With all due respect, this is a somewhat strange take. It’s like being afraid of recruiting good players. So, because a really high rated recruit MAY not pan out, you should never recruit really highly rated players? Look at the teams that have won consistently for the last 5-10 years and look at their blue chip ratios and recruiting rankings, or more specifically their 5 star players. Talent wins. If you set the bar in recruiting at a middle level, you should only expect middle level results then. The rate at which we would strike out on a 5* and the cost of actually paying a 5* detracts from the overall team IMO. PSU is in Centre County. It's not the major market that tends to attract 5*s. If we go all in to court such a talent, we would probably do so at the expense of turning away other players who would be more than capable of excelling at PSU.
So, why not focus on the players that are in our wheelhouse?

Again, Indiana is an outlier. I never mentioned Spell. You did.My feelings aren't absolute. They're general and Indiana says hello.
Do you think pursuing Kemon Spell for months, at the expense of losing out on other excellent RBs is worth it? This is my point.
Its all a matter of a return on investment. If you have a well constructed roster where everyone is fairly compensated and understands and buys in their compensation structure then you try to recruit 5* star players as long as they are in a position that they can get on the field immediately. Skill players can fall into this category (Smith, Henry). Where things get more complicated is when you are recruiting a 5* player who is not ready to help but demands to be paid based on their projected potential. That, then, requires significant financial commitments with no assurance the player will stick and then you simply have flushed this money down the toilet. The rate at which we would strike out on a 5* and the cost of actually paying a 5* detracts from the overall team IMO. Stargazers are probably going to get frustrated. But with that being said, Currie is a 6'7 230 TE and ranked within the top 400-500 nationally. I don't know if this one is necessarily a "reach." Based on Campbell's past TEs, he likes them 6'5+.This staff marches at the beat of their own drummer. I am looking at some of the offers to recruits in the mid-80s and would love to hear Mouser and the other are assessing these prospects.
That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying in most cases the pursuit isn't worth the cost. Look at the expense of retaining 5*s did to this 25 team? Was it worth it?

Currie is just barely under the 4-star threshold. PSU recruited plenty of kids in that ratings range under the previous staff (including Tyler Warren). From what I gather, the new staff prioritizes certain traits (like size) at different position groups, and they will go get what they are looking for regardless of what recruiting services say. So, we should expect them to bring in a number of three-star players they identify as kids that will fit well what they want to do. The hope is that the staff, with a bit of a track record to back it up, can coach and develop really well the kids they evaluate and target.Stargazers are probably going to get frustrated. For what it's worth, sounds like Campbell & Terry spent the week in Pittsburgh and they're willing to make a significant investment in the WPIAL in '27. PA has 12-15 4/5*s so the bulk of the '27 money may be spent within the state of PA.
Just noodling on my part.
