8.5 million and up are designated for uniforms and other apparel. Keep in mind that when estimating the value of such a deal the dollar figure for related items is calculated using "retail value."

This class is comparable with classes of the past decade. It is only lacking the kind of explosive talent that will best Ohio State and Oregon. We will have to wait and see if Indiana is a long term contender and USC is spending like a drunken sailor.
USC concerns me ( I think they have like 6 or 7 NCs since 1960). They have the elite pedigree, the location and apparently the funds to contend.
A "solid" recruiting approach and dependable coaching will yield top 5 results in the conference (a bit better some years and lower others). Schedule and other factors will come into play. For instance this season.....PSU may actually be 10-2. But most people aren't thinking of PSU as a top 2 conference team. If PSU remains in the top 25 of NIL, their ceiling most years will be top 10-15. Hardly excellence at the highest level.
Wake us up in 12 years and let us know how it turns out…assuming there is anything left of college football by then.

Kraft has done a great job with corporate NIL sponsorship deals. He has done a terrible job with wealthy alumni and other rich donors. A good chunk of that information to contact those folks sits behind the cia level fortress walls of the PSU alumni association. They don’t like to share. We have one of the largest alumni networks in the nation and little ability to leverage it. Other schools have figured it out.
Maybe the potential donors are still pissed sbout Joe being railroaded?

The interesting aspect about Taylor (per pay boards) is that he actually did verbal to Campbell during his visit. Then Nebraska called him the next day with a higher offer and Colorado then matched it. Taylor is a better talent than I thought, and I would give him an elite offer. I just wonder how smart it is to play the game with him. I don’t think it’s necessary to match the offer from those two schools. It’s insulting, as we’re a much better program. Hopefully we can get close enough or Kraft/HVU can find a new revenue opportunity so that we have enough funds to accomplish what we want in the rest of this class and more importantly the January portal class.
I think a key sticking point for us could be that sweetening the pot for Taylor could mean he gets more than Howard, Sowell and Eskildsen. If that is the case it could cause major lockeroom issues.

I like the idea of sweetening the deal if we can reasonably do it without breaking the bank and still preserving funds for the portal and not causing issues in the WR room. Clearly we are a better program and Taylor knows this so we probably don't have to match Nebby's deal but still be pretty close.

Sweeten the deal for an unproven high school player? Isn't that what Franklin did with olesh?1

Maybe this means we have more NIL to recruit? He talks about new opportunities. I never saw a consistent answer from the different boards to X if this also provides general NIL funding for the collective or individual sponsorship opportunities for our athletes.

Is this on top of "excellence at the highest level" that he promised in football?

It's good overall for the non-rev sports. I am not convinced it moves the needle on the only revenue generating sport that really matters: football. Other schools are going all in 100% on football. That is the level of commitment that will be required to reach the pinnacle

As frequently advised in the corporate world, you can’t cut your way to prosperity. It’s a short sighted and tactical way of thinking.

The NIL funding approach needs to be strategic and sustainable. NIL requires continuous revenue growth. Kraft needs to figure out how to increase revenues for future growth.

I do like your idea of leveraging private sponsors to fund additional NIL.
When needed cutting helps a lot that's why all corporations do it. Cutting in PS's case is an absolute must. From 100% funding of unprofitable Intermural sports to building new buildings constantly going in debt has to stop at some point or it's going to be game over. The last time I checked PS wasn't supposed to be running welfare programs or giving their pals building contracts. It's time to get back to real capitalism and guaranteeing profitability with Millions if not Billions in reserve. The graft, mismanagement and cronyism which contributes to the first two at PS is legendary. Everybody makes excuses why something can't be done.

Through the years I fired more than a couple "it can't be done" people. When you came to me it better have been with your plan in hand to get it done. Never come to me with a complaint and no plan to fix it.
Man a few of you guys really like to piss in your own wheaties. In fact, I’m convinced it’s just one of you with different nic’s clogging this board. Go touch grass.
The mentally depressed it's a disease on this board.

ND makes less from their TV contract than B1G schools make from theirs.
And the B1G is now on NBC too, along with ND, so they don’t have their own contract.
ND is just very smart with how they handle their money. They own part of UA, which is more valuable to them than just a simple payment, they own their own license (why you see the Golden Dome on the back of stuff, and they have an endowment that is top 10 nationally, despite only having 8,000 students.
They also do 18 month NIL deals with recruits, instead of the traditional 1 year, which allows for more money to a recruit up front.
Freeman is a phenomenal recruiter, but now he can actually compete with SEC schools, Oregon, Miami, etc… with NIL to even the field.
Maybe, maybe not. Either way, it's close.

Posting here just to prove to some of our folks Campbell just needs some time to cook. We just landed this guy for 2028.

Big pick up... Now have to keep him in the fold.

Landon Tengwell showing James Armstrong highlight tape. Definetly has the physical tools. Ball zips out of his hand and nice to have another 2 years to develop at the high school level.

Great news and what is sorely needed. Nail down a blue chip QB and then hope he helps attract big play 4 and 5 stars to fill in the cracks. However, I assume many here are disappointed, because they have clearly stated that PSU will not invest in players that aren't going to impact the field. Unless CMC is throwing this kid on the field as a freshman (and assuming his ratings trend up) it will cost a million or more to have him on the bench.
I hope this is the result of newfound NIL resources because it flies in the face of letting a significantly higher rated QB (Bourque) go elsewhere. while settling for a 3 star.

Maybe this kid placed the opportunity to play at PSU, a lifelong dream, over the payout. Nah, that won’t ever happen.

Fans want to play at their beloved school. Elite athletes want to earn the money their talent deserves.
Some here probably thought that "Rudy" was factual.

ND just had a 4 star 2028 qb committed for 6 days. Hopefully we can hold onto this one longer!
Any doubt they will reload? 2028 is 2 lifetimes away in today's "college football." Just today I noticed Ohio State got a 2028 five star WR (yes another one) and a five star DL 2027.
If young Mr, Armstrong continues to progress as a senior and he improves or maintains his #10 position, he will have many offers to consider. PSU will need to dedicate significant funds to keep him and I'm absolutely sure they are well aware of this.

Let's be realistic and hope this is the beginning of a trend at PSU that will see spending for talent among the top 10 so that talent acquisition can match program expectations.
