This Tenn/adidas deal to the RB recruit is confusing me. How much did adidas give the Tenn RB recruit? Is the 2 million from Tenn's revenue sharing, or does it include NIL? Has PSU asked adidas to provide NIL to some high end recruits to come to PSU? Can PSU do the same as Tenn? Have they tried? Will adidas make smaller NIL offers to lower ranked recruits, or do they simply want the big name recruit and nothing else? Did our performance last year sour adidas? Do we have to prove our worth on the field this year? So many unanswered questions.

This is more concerning.Assuming that you are at the top of (pick a school)s board, if I"m Nike I'm pushing him to go to a program of (ours) that has the greatest potential for positive exposure.After all, it is now nothing more than a business transaction.
I find it all confusing too. I also wonder where the numbers came from in the original X post. Are they accurate? If they are, can Georgia hang onto Spell? Those numbers are supposedly a lot higher than Spell, but again who knows.
How far away from this are we:
Star RB: "Coach, I can't wear these crappy Adidas cleats... I'm going to wear my Nikes"
Coach: "You can't do that, we have a deal with Adidas"
RB: "You may have a deal with Adidas, but I don't have a damn deal with Adidas, they don't pay me squat. Nike will pay me a cool 1/2 a million, and I like their gear better anyway. You wear whatever damn shoes you want."
Coach: "Sorry. Doesn't work like that"
RB "Sorry my ***. Nike is gonna' give me $500,000, and I AM wearing them. You got a problem with that? Talk to my agent - and my lawyer will see you in court"
Want to know how FUBAR "college" sports are? Find the brightest and most cynical/skeptical person you know. Ask them their thoughts on how fouled up "college" sports are - and then multiply that by a factor of 5.
All because the business was run by a group that was overwhelmingly composed of not-too-bright, greedy, self-interested, egotistical puffs. More than enough of them to drown out ANY input from the few who actually had the brains, foresight, and integrity to maintain sanity. For decades.

I have said this before, the pendulum has swung waaaaay too far in favor of the athletes.
Should they get paid? Yes. Should a high school RB be signing contracts guaranteeing him $6 million PLUS signing a deal with Nike or Adidas worth a million or whatever? No.
Should a player be able to transfer the moment a coach looks at him the wrong way and then transfer again, and again and again. No. Should a player be able to transfer? Of course, but put limits on it so we don't have players at 4 schools in 5 years and may or may not even have a degree.
These corrupt, fat cat, do nothings who are supposedly "in charge" of college athletics (ADs, conf commissioners and yes your holier than thou college presidents and whomever else) need to get off their a##es and develop a strategic plan with regulations and rules.
I assume there will be some type of signature agreement that you can't wear anything while in the football facilities, pre-game, game warm ups, or during games, that is different than the school's apparel contract. I would think it would not be enforceable when the athlete is "out & about" or attending class. Of course I'm not a lawyer.
There's so much that can go wrong. Obviously, the NFL has a much better system. The college system is just starting but its got such a poor foundation that there's much that can and will go wrong. I can't believe they're haven't been more court cases yet.
This is quite the admission from Sark. Did he damage his recruiting reputation with that statement?
I thought something like this could happen, but I thought it would manifest itseslf in not being able to sign a full class. Sark wants a full class, so he cut older players.

NIL collectives are independent, third-party organizations and are not part of a University.
Context matters.
Nothing surprising or new here. Pre NIL it was called being processed out of the program. Every big time football program does this.
They’re independent up to the point that the coach of said sport instructs it to funda specific athlete. There is an undefined line between the collective and the university.

Maybe for the portal, IMHO High School players and 7 figure deals are a
big gamble.
Of course they are. That’s why your staff has to do its homework, but if you think that you have a kid that could make an immediate impact or be a real game changer, you have to adapt to the times. If not, you’ll be left behind. Players like Jeremiah Smith or Ryan Williams exist, but if your staff is unwilling to sway from their own stringent rules, then those players will end up somewhere else. Also, why do some think that the portal would be a better economic choice? The proven portal players will cost more than the HS player you are unwilling to take a gamble on.

How are NIL collectives independent? Are you saying that Campbell and Hoodjer might have been willing to pay Spell & Taylor more money but it was the officials at Nittany Valley United who said no?
Did he really cut players or did he just revoke the NIL money which in turn motivated players to leave?
Here is your total bankroll. (collective plus revenue share)....now your GM decides how to distribute it (IMO).
The "guests" know that they are going to get batting practices pitches. The cottage industries need to produce shows and generate interest for "premium" memberships as well. You don't bite the hand that feeds you.

let's just for ***** and giggles talk portal. You can go for the portal players that have acheived and are looking for more green and the "unproven" vets stuck behind starters and seeking playing time. So you either try to outbid Ohio State for the "proven" talent or you pay to sign "unproven" college players that haven't seen a lot of playing time. Talent acquisition is either expensive or a risk.....likely both.

I would say look at the top freshmen for the 2025 season and compare that to the top transfers .
Mendoza, Beck and i don't know if it was J.Sayin's first year along with Oregon' qb were true
difference makers.
Franklin missed on the Oregon DB and we sat Olesh all year, all that money for nothing. My point is a
incoming 5 star could sit all year with money that could have been spent on retention or transfers.
Not arguing here, but i think it's a wait and see how this dynamic works out. This recruiting season like
no other has had a lot of over payment, poaching and lazy recruiting.
