I'd like to see some of you guys try to gentrify West Memphis or Compton. Pointing out facts about the disparities in the races, using statistics from the FBI or CDC, is not racist. The way some people present these facts might be racist, but facts are facts. Haven't any of you heard of Routine Activity Theory? It was developed by a couple of Ivy League guys, and I haven't heard many calling them racists.

I thought about going for a sarcastic comment with this line, but I don't think I can do it justice as well as others.

Well, the Ivy League is the paragon of political correctness. If you haven't heard of or researched Routine Activity Theory there's no point in responding.

And to think all this time they were called the Ivory League.

What I get for assuming I guess. Is that racist?

Why the f do people keep calling welfare the "gravy train"? Take a look at the numbers. If you want to live on 10k, total, a year then give it a whirl. If thats a gravy train to you I won't blame you a bit for hitching up to it.

Notice: All the stories about your wife's third cousin pulling 60k a year on the draw are horse poop.

I know quite a bit about it actually. Wrote a paper over a similar topic in my Criminal Psych classes back in college. My comment was more in line with the sarcastic comment that LeTude mentioned.

No actually they are not. It isn't a majority (or should I be using the word plurality???), but there are plenty of numbers showing if people max out their government benefits you can get to $60K a year depending on the state you live in. So yeah, I would consider that a gravy train for some.

And of course by people I must be referring to colored people. Great day in the morning.

No really like most red states they are net "takers" That is the amount of federal aid the receive is much greater than the revenue paid in, so they would have to make up the difference somehow in the form of that gawd-awfull word - taxes.

They both cite the same report. Not that I guess it matters.

There are too many variables that go into being "takers" or "givers" for an entire state. Population, age, income tax rates, military, etc.

Maybe we need to refer to leeches. Cause there are some people that truly need assistance. I'm all for helping those folks out. However, I work in New Albany, Indiana. Of the 100's of people on government assistance in this city there are only 8 that truly meet the definition of "destitute" that need assistance. The others just "qualify". I don't have a link. It is from the mouth of the New Albany Housing Authority.

Race aside...and not to derail my own thread...entitlements will be the downfall to the entire country. I'm past who put them in, who voted for them, who increased them, who decreased them, and all that. The way it is set up, it is broke. It is busted. It can't last. Just can't.

Yep, corporate welfare entitlements are definitely the downfall to the entire country.

Tax payers give more of their hard earned money to corporate welfare than welfare to the poors. That's a fact. But people love beating up on vulnerable, weak people. It's the American Way..

Yep, you're right. Entitlements will end it all.

I'm not beating up on the vulnerable or weak. I just got done saying there are some that actually need it....and we should help them because we are benevolent. I might go a different way with churches and what not, but I have no problem that some of my money goes to these programs.

But since you want to beat up on the corporate welfare entitlements who suck blood from tax payers are you ready to beat up on the leeches that do it individually too? American Way right? What's good for the goose is good for the gander right?

Most of the "taker" states are small less populated states. Fewer people equal less tax income. Sorta like Louisville pays out more to the state than they receive because that's where the people are.

the larger states like California have some of the highest taxes and LOTS of the wealthiest people. Most of the top 10 least dependent are large population states.

I know. You didn't say anything about weak and vulnerable. Sorry if you got that implication. Just stating out loud that hardly no one ever says a peep about profiting businesses taking tax payer money. It's worse than individuals taking it in my opinion. Businesses should not get one bit of help subsidiaries. If they do, it better be a good reason.

As for individuals. yeah, you're right. There are going to be some who take advantage of it. Sure wish that wasn't the case, but it is. I don't like Newt Gingrich, but he's spot on about Voc rehab programs as an option to government dependency. I agree 100% on that. Regardless, it's easier to cut off the tit to corporations.

Yeah we have more in common then I think given the impression that we probably fall on two ends of the spectrum. People just need to talk. There ain't a one way or no way. It is all broke. Corporations and the tax code...broke. Individuals and the tax code....broke. Entitlements all around....broke.

Somebody is gonna be at the wheel when the sum ***** goes off the cliff though. I guess it just comes down to who you want controlling the skid. You can't give everybody everything. At some point you have to work or provide value for what you get in my opinion. What is valuable? Hell I don't know. But I know it isn't watching the line form outside of work on the 3rd of the month so you can get your "paycheck" and drive down to the casino boat.

That red state/ blue state crap is hopelessly flawed, most importantly because of such "welfare" items as military spending and ag subsidies. Not that both couldn't use trimming.

Half of the country is working to support the other half. That imbalance is growing. At some point the handouts have to stop, most likely when the debt collapses the economy. Then you will have the answer to the thread's question: Balkanization.

Nothing happens. As a population we will all be a little more gray, our eyes get a little less rounded, and care a lot less about race. My wife is half Peruvian and half Chinese. There currently isn't a box for her on a survey . . . but what the hell box are our children supposed to check, and how does it affect anyone else in any way?

People who believe something is going to happen because of evolving demographics will be the minority.

Not sure that I would buy that there are only 8 people in New Albany that are truly destitute...if so, I'd like to know the definition being used of "destitute"?

That aside... I once heard what I thought was an excellent plan to replace the food stamp program. It was suggested that beans and rice should be free to all. The govt would pay farmers to grow beans and rice and it would be placed in the groceries or where ever, free for the taking. Anyone hungry, anyone needing food, anyone who just like beans and rice had it there for the taking.
Personally, I think basic health care should be the same way.

Destitute was described to me as the complete inability to support themselves, have the skills to support themselves, or familial support system to provide any support at all. The lady's point was she knows that people on her program could make it with some effort. But they qualified, so she takes them in. The 8 she categorized as if they weren't on the government program (s) they would be homeless inside of 2 to 3 months.

Last month on Sunday around 1 in the afternoon I drove by the handout office for Electric bill aid. There was a guy sitting on the porch in coveralls waiting for that place to open at 9 the next morning.....by midnight there was a line.........Some people do need the help, most are just working the system.

Handouts are going to bankrupt this country if they aren't reined in.........the new American dream is to "get on the draw".....

Almost all democracies have failed about the same way, people vote for people who give away free money, huge government debt and then collapse..........and then a dictatorship happened..............

I think getting a check for $1000-$1600 a month and getting food stamps for $800 a month and getting free healthcare, where you literally don't have to pay for anything, and then getting most of your section 8 apartment paid for is a lot nicer lifestyle than that $10000/year you quote. In fairness most people on welfare that I know have a bout the same means I did when I made $30,000 a year. They also get a huge $8000 tax refund if they have more than 2 children.

I agree. Whatever these people are getting, a large portion of them are comfortable enough that they don't want to look for jobs to get off of it.

I'm not just going to take your word for it that abortion is killing. There's a lot of debate still going on about it.

Reverse slavery happens. The white minority will be working, but their entire salaries will go to pay entitlements for the others.
