no doubt. He made some of the best memories I've had as a State fan in his too short tenure here...

I'll never forget checking out the USA Today sports section at breakfast on a business trip and seeing his picture on the next to last page and thinking "Great let's see what they have to say about MSU and Keiffer McGee." What a horrible tragedy.

I took a rushee trip to State vs USC in 95. Taneyhill and keefer mcgee were outstanding. He should get a banner even if he never died and just got hurt and never played again. He was Cadillac Williams and Jerious Norwood and Deuce McAllister before they were. Great player. Somebody get that box score and tell me Mcgee's stats and Taneyhill's stats. Seriously a great game.

I understand that the young man died, and I can understand not using the number while he still had classmates remaining on the team, but we still use #97 today, so why aren't we using #21?

Especially since, indirectly at least, playing for MSU contributed to Stower's death. It's a stretch, but not much of one.

However, I appreciate that we don't use #21. Keifer's death had much more of an impact on the team. Not that either was any less tragic, but Keifer's death lingered with everyone a bit longer. Right or wrong, it's true.

Ole Miss also had the OL that drowned the year after Keefer. I think he was from Bruce.

Keifer was a very popular player. His death was a much bigger news event than Stowers death. From what I recall. However, Stowers did die as a result of playing football for the University. I think 97 should have been retired a long time ago.

Hey, I know. Let's make a bust of Stowers and give it to the best DL. Then tote it around all over the state to alumni functions..... bring it out in the locker room when we want to motivate the team. Oh, and let's make another for Earnest Garner for the best LB. (flame away)
