(June 10, 2016)</strong> -- The Big 12 Conference released its 2016 Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll with a total of 241 West Virginia University student-athletes making the list. The conference recognizes all student-athletes at its member institutions during each semester with a 3.0 grade point average or higher.</p><p></p><p></p><p>Of the 241 WVU student-athletes recognized by the Big 12 for their academic excellence, 49 registered a GPA of 4.0 in the spring semester.</p><p></p><p></p><p>The 49 Mountaineers named to the list with a perfect 4.0 GPA in the semester include: Tanner Campbell (baseball); Lauren Saiki, Marlena Schmidt (women’s basketball); Avery Schneider (golf); Brooklyn Doggette, Jaida Lawrence, Mackenzie Myers (gymnastics); Michael Bamsey, Elizabeth Gratz, Meelis Kiisk (rifle); Alison Coates, Emily Deming, Jacqueline Spiropoulos, Elizabeth Young (rowing); Christian Diaz, Konrad Dziedzic, Jack Elliott (men’s soccer); Carly Black, Amanda Hill, Easther Mayi Kith, Bianca St. Georges (women’s soccer); Emmott Blitch, James Koval, Jake Williams (men’s swimming & diving); Marah Bieger, Julia Calcut, Amelie Currat, Morgan Emter, Kelsey Frantz, Jaimee Gillmore, Katie Murto, Loren Williams, Madelyn Woods (women’s swimming & diving); Abigail Rosiello (tennis); Amy Cashin, Anna French, Peyton Hampson, Brianna Kerekes, Corinne Kule, Allison Lasnicki, Shamoya McNeil, Peyton Panger, Andrea Pettit, Savanna Plombon, Paige Szabat, Kelly Williams (women’s track & cross country); Gianna Gotterba, Hannah Shreve (volleyball); and Joe Wheeling (wrestling).</p><p></p><p></p><p>The rowing and cross country/track teams led all Mountaineer athletic teams with 33 and 32 honorees, respectively, on the honor roll. Other total student-athletes on the honor roll include football (26), women’s swimming & diving (21), women’s soccer (18), wrestling (16), men’s swimming & diving (16), gymnastics (14), men’s soccer (12), baseball (11), tennis (9), women’s basketball (9), rifle (8), volleyball (7), men’s basketball (6) and golf (3).</p><p></p><p></p><p>Fifty-nine West Virginia student-athletes graduated in May with degrees.</p><p></p><p></p><p>The Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll is recorded and released each semester and recognizes those Big 12 student-athletes who recorded a 3.00 or better GPA the previous semester.</p><p></p><p></p><p>More than 4,500 student-athletes each semester have been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the Conference’s 19-year tenure.</p></blockquote><p></p>
