Grunk going to VT seems so short sighted.

I understand familiarity. But First time playcaller and a staff that has a horrible record of developing QBs. Did he not just see what they did to Allar?

And VT is in full rebuild mode for the next 2-3 years. He’s going to have no talent around and if Franklin’s past is of note, the OL will stink too.

I'm just glad these formerly indentured servants are no longer in shackles and forced to play football for a mere scholarship, and can offer their services to the highest bidder. Clearly this is for the best for the players AND the sport itself. What a great system we have now!

It's no worse than the old system when kids were being used by the programs
This all could have been solved/contained years ago if programs would have just agreed to pay the kids as they deserved to be

No one would be wise to base a discussion upon a foundation of what a nitwit may or may not spout as a hot take.
So.... moving on.

The situation at hand is the potential replacing of one QB with another, where the "another" is simply not as good. And where the better QB is: On a much steeper growth trajectory; offers the potential for long-term growth and stability; and certainly "fits" a skill set better than the lesser guy.
The only apparent rational for the change - if it were to happen - is that the lesser guy was on the former team of the new coach (which seems to be far more than a "trend", given the tsunami of former ISU guys who seem to be headed to State College).
That QB change - if done intentionally - is not a smart move. IMO. Others may have differing opinions, of course. But, then again, there have been very few well-executed actions surrounding the program in recent times.
Or the coach wants to run a system that involves a QB that is mobile and the so called “better” QB isn’t as mobile as the “lesser” QB, thereby making the “better” QB not as good for the program as the “lesser” QB.

If this was true (it's not), there sure were a lot of kids signing up to be used every year all across the country!

Free tuition. Free room and board. Opportunities to get a college degree that would not be there otherwise. Free training, coaching, and exposure. All while getting all the preferential treatment you could want while enrolled at the school. Pretty darn good deal if you ask me.

Oh. Now you want Grunk? Interesting turn of events.

How is it not true? Look at the money the programs are bringing in and you believe a kid should be restricted on where he attends college?
Kids were signing up because there was no other option to play football
All of those free things are great but it's comparable for what they were bringing in. It doesn't matter if you or I would have liked that deal--it matters that they were unjustly restricted as the courts have ruled.

To be fair, he didn't say he wants Grunk in that reply--just that Grunk would be an idiot to go play for Franklin which is true. He's a pocket passer and we know James will force him to run read-option.

it will be interesting. Cignetti does not seem like a guy that tolerates too much. And yet, he knows the landscape and wants to continue winning. At a program like IU where there isn't a long tradition of winning, the support structure isn't in place.

I will note that after their QF win yesterday over 'Bama, there was a report from On3's @SteveWiltfong where he interviewed several of the blue-chip prospects that Indy is now involved with, and they all had very positive things to say about the win/about IU. Cignetti does seem to being trying to make this year's success an ongoing thing.
I read a post that Cig is stocked with 4, 5, and 6 yr players. So on average a much older starting line up. He won't be able to have that advantage moving forward. Cig also has bonuses and salary incentives he has met that will keep him in the top 3 of coaches. That might drain cash resources a little bit. But in the short run it is a happy trade off for IU.

Where in my post did I say I wanted Grunk?

You’ve been riding my tail about my Grunk comments for weeks. And weirdly bring it up again now? After I was proven right and you were wrong? Our staff chose Becht. In fact, they’re bringing in both their QBs for visits. And let Grunk walk. Grunk played well against bad opponents and it’s been said for weeks that he wouldn’t be the guy. It’s very obvious you have no idea what you’re talking about.

As a fan of PSU, speaking about our former QB, I hoped he’d pick a better situation than the qb-killers themselves Franklin/Obrien.

My opinion--I could be wrong--but I'd expect him to keep taking this approach. Finding 5th and 6th year portal guys that will follow his orders without question who fit his scheme. He's not the type that's going to chase an elite player.

Traut seems to be active in getting PSU OL guys to visit Florida. Shanahan and Boyer both already scheduled for this week

I rode your tail about it because you made a tail out of yourself trashing Grunk in one of the first games he played in. You weren’t “proven right” whatsoever. Your tirades are all opinion.

I just breezed through the last nine pages or so of this thread. Maybe reality is settling in to my brain, but this is the most depressing thread I think I’ve ever read.
We'll start adding people soon then like 60-65% of people will be happyish

There’s already 3-4 visitors confirmed for the weekend…

Campbell’s retention at this point has been really successful, IMO.

Still hoping for Campbell, Hayes, Woseley, and Joseph.

Makes a lot of sense, on multiple levels.

FL needs some help. And Traut has a relationship with these guys. Shanahan was at ?? (Texas A & M, think), and portalled to PSU on the recommendation of his former coach (who was Traut's former coach, or something like that). Boyer was a prospect that Traut recognized when he wasn't rated all that highly. Traut felt Boyer would take a few years to develop, and has worked hard to coach him up over the past few years.

Tom, I think Shanahan was at Texas A&M. Down here, mistaking one for the other is a felony. (just kidding)

If you don’t know what he is doing yet, why post what you did - “But filling out our roster with players from a mid-pack Big 12 team would not be a good start”.
because it wouldn't be, and some here seem to think that it's the answer
