Seeing the market for Grunk is higher than thought. BGJ may have to pony up a lot more money than he thought if he wants Grunk. Not sure BGJ will want to pay that much for 1 player. Could be just the agent floating this out there to drive up the market but will be interesting to see where Grunk ends up and visits

At this point, the info is Premium, so I can't list all the names. The guys currently on campus have already been identified, so it's not an issue naming them (Rocco Becht, QB and Benjamin Brahmer, TE -- predictions already entered by @PeteNakos of On3 that they'll end up at PSU).
Per my non-premium and always unnamed sources, Brahmer was a done deal earlier today.

Grunk is gone and Becht is our starting QB. The decision has been made.

The argument with Becht is the same as with Campbell. He’s been in the system and has done more with less around him.
Look I like Campbell and hope he wins those Big and National Championships Kraft promised but this “done well with less around him” is getting stale already. While Becht may have to played with less surrounding talent he wasn’t playing the same level of competition in the Big 12 as what he will face in the Big Ten. Will be interesting to see how things work out for Becht at Penn State and for Grunk wherever he lands.

Yeah, something is getting stale alright.

Man, some parts of our fanbase are ******* insufferable. Some of you need some real setbacks in your life to understand perspective. Crying like toddlers about piddly ****. wE aRe DoOmEd FoReVeR!!!!!

We got through 2011 - this portal turnover is JV ****

Fortunately you stay off the wrestling board until, god forbid, one of Cael’s guys loses a match

The Ole Miss Qb was in d2 for last three years. It’s all about getting in the right spots.

It was Charlie Weiss Jr who, after much game film study, determined that Chambliss would make a good back-up QB. Spotting talent is somewhat of an art.

Hmm. So much for the Michigan players not hitting the portal. They have some All B1G selections on the market now.

I believe Clarett lost due to the rule being in the NFLPA CBA as a way to help protect veterans spots being taken by younger players
Very well could have been. It so long ago I don't remember the specifics, just that Clarett challenged the rule and lost.

The Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the NFL’s eligibility rules were part of a collective bargaining framework between the NFL (as a multi‑employer unit) and the NFL Players Association, so they had to be evaluated under labor law rather than antitrust law.Because of this, the court concluded that federal labor policy favoring collective bargaining precluded applying antitrust laws to the three‑year rule, and therefore Clarett could not use antitrust law to invalidate the rule.

Obviously, he will play the best players LEFT.

The problem is that barring a HUGE haul of incoming portal guys, the exodus may leave "not much to pick from", aside from some former ISU scruffers.

So much for the "Keep T Smith and save the roster" theory.

Campbell had - as job 1: keep the quality of the current roster, and add Big Ten level guys in the portal. Part A has been a huge fail - Part B now needs to be an A+. Time will tell.
You do realize almost every one of the main guy's PSU would want to retain are staying! 90% of guys who left weren't going to play anyway. Only major losses are Coleman, Grunk(This will be mitigated by Becht AND Manske) Manske is a big get here to have 2 QB's vs 1 if Grunk stayed, Gilliam, Mack, and Reynolds(Will be mitigated by bringing in the #1 Portal TE, from ISU)

Campbell is doing a GREAT job keeping the guys who matter Dixon, Lane, Granville, Kemajou, Smith, Howard, Donkou, Cousins, Sexton, Aliciene, Barker

I am Super Stoked by what I've seen so far and very excited for the future. The next few weeks will be key to fill out important pieces from the Portal with #1 concern...getting some good DL.

Loss of Gilliam & Mack can't be mitigated by the #1 portal tight end. Although as you wrote there is a huge need for starter ready DTs (2-3). To date, like you, I think everything has gone very well. I am a bit skeptical about some of the coaching hires. Hopefully they work out.

Only on a message board can we see posts skeptical of coaches who have never coached a day at PSU.

Of course, Having said that the DT spot needed a massive upgrade as they were weak at the point of attack and could not keep OL off the second level. Gilliam showed great promise but this team needs one or two 320+ DTs to take on double teams. Recruiting has failed in this respect since Mustifer. Mack was a good but not great safety in pass protection. I liked both players, but there can be and should be an upgrade.

The coaches I suspend judgement on until I see the product on the field. I am cautiously optimistic on the brain trust that has been assembled. Veldt, the new hire, for example, was a nominee for the Broyles award and was named the Linebackers Coach of the Year by Football Scoop in 2017. He also was a recruiting coordinator at a previous stop. Is he better or worse that Connor? No idea, but the LB play and recruiting needs to improve.

I think we need to operate under the principle of charity until we see the product on the field. Campbell is building a particular culture and needs the pieces to install it. All the recent coaching hires are capable coaches. I, for one, are excited to see what they do and more importantly what they are able to do on the talent acquisition front.

I have to give Ohio State some credit here. The one thing they rarely do is overvalue a player. At this stage, Coleman’s hype has exceeded his potential. As with any type of investment, you should never over pay for an asset.
Agreed. Coleman has great potential but at the present time is a liability in the run game. He is a situational pass rusher not a complete DE. So, I am sure OSU will grade and pay accordingly

We kept the core of a good team. I'm actually surprised that more guys didn't follow BGJ to VT like predicted. Knowles may have done more damage. He may end up with Coleman, Mack, Campbell and Gilliam. He coined the phrase Chasmanian Devil and Coleman was a favorite. He praised Campbell as the most intelligent LB. Mack probably learned a starting spot was not guaranteed and he would not be getting big NIL money at PS. Would have liked him to stay (he was fast, aggressive, and vocal). He was also small, had trouble with tall receivers, and bounced off RBs. He will get more NIL at Vols if Knowles is allowed to bring in some guys. Not surprised Shanahan and Boyer followed Traut to FL. They were Traut guys and TJ was from Orlando. Reynolds had a tough year catching and attempting to block. He was probably going to be the third team TE as a junior. He will be TE 1 at VT. Was also likely to see an NIL drop. I understand why Grunk didn't want to sit another year. I also understand why MC wants Becht as his QB (knowledge of O and trust). We kept the most important guys we could. Some were always going to leave. Overall, not a bad outcome.

Any word yet on Bragalone? Campbell could be an instant hero by bringing him in!
I am not making this up. Golfed Winding Brook just outside Milton a couple months ago. Not far from S Williamsport. They had a list of golfers who had a hole in one this year. There was a Bragalone on it. No first name in a board in their pro shop.

Well said, exactly my feelings. They want bigger DTs, younger coaches, they have seemingly kept the right penn state guys(minus a few like Grunk) amd are looking to bring in other guys in the transfer portal that will fit their system and culture. Big smart players, young competitive coaches, culture focused. I really wish we could have kept Grunk, but otherwise, its hard to doubt the moves thus far.

Good viewpoints. I would like to see them get a few ISU guys and then hit the portal hard for the guys they think will help immediately. The ISU guys I would like to see come to PSU: Becht, Manske, Hansen, Brahmer, Sorrell, Black, Neal, Williams, and perhaps Bacon.
