It does not have to be Marcus Neal Jr. As long as Mack’s replacement is an upgrade, that’s all that matters.

So many on here trashed Franklin for using QB’s that didn’t fit the system he wanted to run. So now we’re going to trash Campbell for trying to get QB’s that fit into the system he wants to run. Make it make sense.
I hear you and have thought this too. But, Grunk really endeared himself to the fans (me) and bias creeps in. I really love his potential and hate to see him go this early.

Definitely given how much leadership he demonstrated in the final was and the bowl game. Maybe he wanted more $ than they were willing to pay. Bummer.
Yeah, in the last two weeks, he was one of the guys that at least appeared to want to be here and I thought he did well in the bowl game.
Assumption, of course would be that at least one of the two highly ranked safeties from Iowa State is on his way.

Well, they have about 40 in the portal (with PSU now close behind), and the guys from the top teams are just now starting to make their decisions/announcements. Those "rankings" are less set than pudding at this point.
Last I saw 22. But we might change horses as well as soon as new ones become available. Losing some good players , but more are dead wood and players that don’t fit into the future plans. Equal or better replacements appear to be in the works . Crazy times for sure . A lot in flux .

Most fans like Grunk. We don't know if he planned to leave, regardless if we brought in a new QB.

Keep in mind that his QB coach left the program.

Unless PK was flat out lying, PSU will have as much or more $$$ to spend on players as just about anyone in the nation.
No reason not to believe him.

Doubt we will even be close. The money we have for next year was what Texas TEch raised in a day last year.

No one would be wise to base a discussion upon a foundation of what a nitwit may or may not spout as a hot take.
So.... moving on.

The situation at hand is the potential replacing of one QB with another, where the "another" is simply not as good. And where the better QB is: On a much steeper growth trajectory; offers the potential for long-term growth and stability; and certainly "fits" a skill set better than the lesser guy.
The only apparent rational for the change - if it were to happen - is that the lesser guy was on the former team of the new coach (which seems to be far more than a "trend", given the tsunami of former ISU guys who seem to be headed to State College).
That QB change - if done intentionally - is not a smart move. IMO. Others may have differing opinions, of course. But, then again, there have been very few well-executed actions surrounding the program in recent times.

Maybe. I think he simply realizes that he can get more money and more exposure playing for a bigger program. Minnesota isn’t a bad team, they just seem to be stuck in middling purgatory, like all Minnesota sports. The U has wealthy donors but really hasn’t seemed to go “all in” on resources for football.

Koi is a gamer. Would love to have him in blue and white. Could see him landing at ND. 🤮
All Minnesota sports? Come on now. We have the Lynx and Frost! 😉

I feel a lot better about the PSU guys heading to the portal after reading their brief career summaries in this Collegian article:

Most, if not all, are replaceable.
It's no secret I want to see Grunk stick around, but Coleman is the most sure thing of that bunch, not even close. I get the feeling he would have portalled this year no matter what.

Edit: I mean declared free agency.

Campbell wanted Becht. That’s good enough for me. Also being rumored Grunk is over valuing himself from an NIL standpoint.

There are 5-6 guys from ISU that I do think are BIG starting material that I hope we get - two OL, two DBs, and the TE. They’re WR1 and RB1 would be welcomed as well.

We knew this portal exodus was coming, I don’t know why people are surprised. We’ve been able to keep some really valuable pieces. Hopefully Campbell, Martin, Hayes, Kemjou, and Goodman are next..

Who are we to doubt a coach who won 69 games in 10 years? He is the next Cignetti.

Coleman's the biggest loss but we could have hired Saban or Urban and he was still leaving

I am cautiously optimistic that Campbell will turn out to be a good hire as HC.

But filling out our roster with players from a mid-pack Big 12 team would not be a good start. He needs to shoot higher than that.
But he’s not doing that?

ISU has 5-6 guys worth going after, and that’s who we’re going after. You’re acting like we’re taking 20+ ISU kids?

Yes, but we will never really know what big portal guys he may have sent after that he can’t get or won’t pay because they are asking too much.
