The powers to be are determined to ruin both college football (with the portal and NIL) and the NFL with the dumb rule changes.

Who said anything about "thriving". Cancer is thriving too.
Are they ruining a sport if viewership great? There's only two options--embrace the change (it's permanent) or you'll have to give up watching. And most aren't giving up Penn State football--we're invested.

WTF are you on about? We have a killer transfer class, including guys outside of Iowa State.
Disagree rankings aren’t everything however if you go on on3 or 247 besides Rocco and the tight end we got Penn State isn’t landing any guys in the top 10 at any position really. All just middle of the road kids. Just because someone weighs 320 doesn’t make him good. Teams ran all over UCLA last year

That's a real bad take on your part. PS has the #1 rated transfer portal class.

I used to watch all the sports. And I gave them all up except football...and a little hockey. Both are trending in the same direction.

That's fair--I respect that. Your time--your choice
Sadly, NIL and "free agency" are here to stay so if those are your major issues...

Ehh--I don't agree with that but I'm sure others do
When I refer to "level of play", I'm not talking about the athleticism, but the basic techniques and fundamentals. Tackling, blocking, knowing the rules, etc etc have all fallen off. Today's footballers try to make up for their lack of skills in these areas with their athleticism. So they have become less of a football player and more of just a good athlete playing football. There is a huge difference. For example, Jack Ham was neither fast nor big but he was very skillful and consistent, thus making him a great football player. He knew how to play the game.

Since the portal and NIL the SEC dominance of the MNC has seemingly diminished. Instead of having Alabama Georgia or Clemson in the title game every year we have Indiana this year. I’d say that’s pretty good for college football.

The argument I've been making here is that the level of play in football, both college and pro, in spite of better athletes, has fallen. Poor tackling, poor coaching decisions, mental mistakes etc etc. Like tonight's Packers/Bears game. Missed extra points, numerous mistakes and dropped balls. These are playoff teams. Any more, NFL games are a calamity of errors lacking in professionalism. Teams are made up of great athletes playing football, not football savvy players. There is a difference IMHO. And I'm glad you mentioned Indiana. There are probably 10 college teams whose rosters have better athletes than Indiana's. The difference between the Hoosiers and those other 10 teams is that Indiana has football players on their team. They know how to play the game and win as a team.

rhey,
How many does Pitt have?
I really don’t care about Pitt lol they should just dissolve the program.

Same old people form BWI if you criticize Penn State in anyway people will tell you to F off.

Kraft said we were getting 5 million more than last year not sure where all the money is going especially with our biggest NIL athletes being gone. I’m not saying these transfers are awful but hardly impressed with a lot of them. You’re seeing a lot of kids transfer out of Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas and Penn State is getting 0 of them. We’re getting kids from Syracuse, Boston College, WVU and UCLA.

Agreed. I thought we were going to be a lot more involved with top prospects, especially given the fact that we do not have slew of top players that we are paying to keep in house. It seems outside of Iowa State players, we are not in the conversation with top prospects. Makes me wonder whether we really have as much to spend as we were told.

We landed James Peoples, OSU rb, last week, but don’t let facts get in the way of your chicken little argument. We have had a great portal class and it is not close to being over.

Good depth for next year, three years of eligibility left I think
How do you figure. He may portal next year. We all have to change our mindset to that these are year by year players. Planning for depth the following year seems to be pointless.

Yes, unfortunately how things are now, the players on a team are basically a one year rental. There is no allegiance to a school or coach, but to $$$.

I’m thinking there’s a good chance a couple thousand college football players will be getting an economics lesson in the law of supply and demand. I assume quite a few are buried and leaving to seek playing time, but I’m also guessing most who declared free agency are not going to receive the compensation they are expecting.

Or Knowles wants them and they like Knowles?

Right on both counts. Thats why getting all the ISU kids is a good thing. They obviously like the coaches and followed them, and they know their worth with that coach. Those kids are more likely to stay around for more than one year and then you dont have to do as much of the portal teh next year.

The guys getting pushed out will have to play at lower conference schools like Temple and work their way back up. A lot of them have bad management people in their ears, many times its mom and dad who started to live to high on the hog once baby boy got to college.

He a 6' 4" - 208lb. Safety from Glenside Pa. with 3 years of eligibility remaining.
He was a captain at La Salle College and also ran track. Recorded personal bests of 11.16 in the 100m dash and 22.52 in the 200m dash. He also has a time of 4.46 in the 40. He is being recruited to play linebacker. He will need to put on 20+ pounds to do so, but with his speed and experience as a safety he may turn out to be good

Probably both. Regardless of that relationship, they had to pay them. That photo of Chaz with Kiffen was strange. Chaz didn‘t exactly appear to be bursting with joy Makes you wonder what that kid is thinking. Maybe he thought he would end up at OSU? Maybe he thought his value was much higher? Maybe his agent just informed him he’s keeping 25%? Maybe he realizes he’s about to be immortalized in a photo dressed up in a goofy outfit next to a 50 year old dork? I could just be making all this up, but maybe it was a whirlwind and he (they) decided taking the money at Tennessee and reuniting with Knowles was the smart move? Who knows, this whole thing has just been so bizarre.

Makes sense. I was concerned they were thinking tight end.
Digging into these under-recruited kids has been interesting. These staff members are dogs; they look under rocks to find talented players who fit what they want to do (or project to do). As they try to establish footholds in the NE I like that they went after the former La Salle captain.
