Kraft said we were getting 5 million more than last year not sure where all the money is going especially with our biggest NIL athletes being gone. I’m not saying these transfers are awful but hardly impressed with a lot of them. You’re seeing a lot of kids transfer out of Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas and Penn State is getting 0 of them. We’re getting kids from Syracuse, Boston College, WVU and UCLA.
Y’all are going to need to get used to moneyball. Typically, the players leaving top programs (OSU, Bama, Georgia, etc) are going to be backups who are demanding top dollar. Players transferring from lower tier program are starters who want to make more money than they were and play for a better team.
And the talent gap in college football between individual players is narrow enough that starters on lower tier teams are often better than backups on top teams (regardless of what their HS recruiting rank was). That means you can expect to pay more for a backup from a top school than a starter at a lower tier school who’s likely better anyways.
For example, Tennessee is likely paying millions for Chaz Coleman, a backup who is a great pass rusher but terrible against the run. We nabbed McPherson who appears to be a great pass rusher and great against the run! And I’m sure he cost less so we can use that money on more DE and DTs.
Another example is this IOL Brock we got from Texas State. Freshman all-American starter who gave up 0 sacks. Texas A&M and Bama were after him. He’s better than any of our backup linemen who left.
I can almost guarantee you that the teams going after the flashy expensive stars will struggle because they’re not leaving enough money to fill out the rest of the team.
