For guys who have jumped into the portal, do they have an unlimited time to sign with another school or is there a "sign by" date?

They can sign whenever. The bigger issue would be when they can enroll in the new university, which could have some limits depending on when spring semester starts - this is relevant for a school like PSU that starts the spring in early January vs schools that have an intersession or very long winter break and may not start until late January or even February.

Isn't the portal closed?

I may be wrong, but I think it is extended for the playoff team players.

The portal deadline gets extended for teams in the CFB playoff. It's 5 business days after their last game. So for Miami and Indiana players, they have 5 more business days to enter. And then the schools have 48 hours to enter portal applications into the portal. So effectively, it could be up to a week before we know if/how many players from those teams enter the portal.

He probably wants to make his mark without all the fernando pressure. Plus, cuban cash money will probably buy iu a bigger name with more experience.

Maybe he only had a roster spot and was being paid because of his brother's demands. Who really knows, but it's pretty clear he's being shown the door for 2026.

Probably not. Alberto committed to Cignetti at JMU in June 2023 and came over to Indiana with him in December of the same year. As for him being "paid." who knows?

Thanks for the clarification.

Good for Duke. The madness needs to stop

What madness? Duke did not sign him to a contract that requires him to play football for Duke. The madness here is being perpetrated by the Universities who are hypocritically lying to the Court System as to why they are making payments to these young men.

walk into a bar....
The three sit down and order a round of drinks. After a few minutes, J. Edgar turns to the others and says, "You know, we actually have a lot in common."
Herbert looks skeptical and asks, "Oh yeah? Like what?"
The vacuum cleaner just sits there, but J. Edgar points to it and says, "Well, one of us one of us sucked the privacy out of the citizens, one of us sucked the hope out of the country, and the other one... well, he’s just doing his job."

I'll be here all week. Please tip the board admin and the paid Iowa hater on your way out.

The scumbag Universities are trying to have their cake and eat it to.... when it benefits them to say the players are not employees or being paid to play football for the University.... they're not employees, but rather amateur student-athletes. But then out of the other side of their mouth, they want to claim that they're being irreparably harmed if the athletes don't play football for them as they are being paid to do???

The Universities are playing a dangerous game wasting the court system's time with their nonsensical horsecrap and shenanigans.

Very quick transfer for sure.
And Cignetti will get a taste of his own medicine. Now folks will take a closer look at his roster for players and he'll lose depth. Additionally guys are not going to sit back and play backup to incoming portal QBs.
And I agree with getting proven commodity QBs in the portal. It makes sense.

Cignetti is toast once one or both (preferably) of his longtime assistant Coordinators get offers they can't turn down. They are both talented and deserving of HC opportunities.

I guess Cigi likes him. Weren't people unimpressed with Mendoza coming over from Cal last year? Just sayin.
The difference this time is that Mendoza and Hoover each had very different coaching experiences prior to joining Indiana. Mendoza was undercoached. The same can't be said for Hoover, who is probably 20 - 30 IQ points dumber than Mendoza.

Lol none forced him to sign the NIL contract. Hopefully Duke sees it through.
