The link below will take you to the U17 brackets but I don't think it'll take you right to 71kg. At any rate, Jayden James is going to start his tournament against a wrestler from Georgia in the qualification round. He is the six seed and his opponent the seven.

The 71kg bracket action does not start until 6:30 am Saturday.

Taina is such a beast. In the semis she gets a quick drag to go behind for a td. Then immediately locks up a bar and half and runs her opponent over for the fall. Made it look easy.

Epenesa also with about a :45 tech fall. 3 tds and 2 laces. Into the finals she goes

Bouzakis with a tough 6-4 loss to Japan. Will wrestle for bronze

Turner does it!! Takes out her Japanese opponent 6-1 to win gold. She has been training with JB and it shows. She actually looks like a mini Burroughs on the mat. Her stance, motion, fakes, and attacks are very similar. Pretty cool to see. She now has 2 golds and a bronze in her 3 trips to U17 worlds. Very impressive

Women’s wrestling in the US just continues to grow and the talent level has never been higher. Turner and Taina have senior level world and Olympic champion level talent and I absolutely think they reach those levels.

What’s going on with Japan? They had a bad U17’s last year with India completely blowing away the competition. This year India is again having a dominant tournament with the US doing well also. Japan is way down team wise but has a chance for 5 medals. Not horrible at all but just not at the usual level for the Japanese women. They do have 3 in the finals in the lower weights so it’s not all bad. Pretty funny they are in 3rd as a team and I consider it a down year

Maybe the referee's real job is an Orthopedic surgeon. My shoulder hurt after that!

I think (I'm not a freestyle ref) that the center ref has to wait for confirmation before awarding a pin.

If that's the case, I have to chuckle about it. There are times in folkstyle where the entire stands are sure it's a pin, and the coaches and teammates of the offensive wrestler are sure it's a pin, and as a ref, you're checking from side to side, and trying to get a different angle, as the way the wrestlers are aligned, there is no clear visual to confirm a pin. And while you (the ref) may be 99% sure it's a pin, it's a mistake to award a pin unless you can verify it. So, you wait until you know for sure before awarding. I can't imagine being in a situation like I've just detailed, and having to also wait for somebody off the mat to confirm a pin before I could award it.
