I didn't attend and forgotten how 'bad' of a game both teams played. 10 punts each. It was like watching stall ball.

from the story.....wow

In the second half, Mississippi State was held to only one first down and 19 yards of offense. But Memphis could not do much better, and the closest the Tigers came to the end zone was the Mississippi State 41.

Hottest game I've ever sat through. I've been in hotter climes, but all those times I was actively working or playing sports or camping, etc. working up a healthy sweat. Your mind is not as focused on it. But, sitting in that concrete jungle with a mass of humanity & that "action" on the field is a different kind of animal.

Add to that my freshman a$$ got lost heading out of town. Was definitely not where I should have been. Getting directions to the highway cost me 5 cigarettes.

A quick check of weather records shows it was ONLY 90' that day, but I beg to differ. It was way hotter than that in that stadium

I agree - that was absolutely the hottest I have ever been at a game in my life. It was hotter than HE!! standing in the parking lot drinking beer before the game.

We were there as well, and I have to agree that it was the hottest game I've ever attended. And humid, which is typical Memphis. Must be something wrong with the weather records. Concessions was selling frozen water bottles, so it took a bit of time for it to be drinkable. I believe I also heard that our dressing room had no AC.

We left after the game and drove to New Orleans. That was the last time I was in Jackson, and it was only driving through on I-55. No incidents and no traffic to speak of. From what I read here, it's gotten a lot worse since then. That was a long drive after baking in the sun though.

I was there. Like sitting in a frying pan. Everyone on both sides trying to cram up under the skybox overhangs.

Was there and I think I saw someone die in the stands a few sections over. Not joking

The stands emptied out around us and the reflection off the shiny empty bleachers was like a magnum version of the Italian suntan thing Paulie Walnuts holds under his chin sometimes.

That's the hottest I've ever been sitting still. I've been hotter, hauling hay or firewood in a Mississippi afternoon in August, for example, but as for sitting still, can't imagine being hotter.

Another game that's memorable to me was Auburn during the early 2000's at Davis Wade. We were sitting on the east side in "Special Section R", that I think now is faculty seating. The sun was beating down and I think the actual temperature was over 100 at game time. But it wasn't even close to the discomfort level at that Memphis game.

What about the UAB game in 2014? It was pretty hot. I think mid 90s. Remember a lot of people passing out in the stands.

I remember stories about it being 120 on the field that day. Plastic turf and the aluminum monstrosity that is/was Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Many folks succumbed to the heat that day.

I was at that game too. I damn near passed out just climbing the stairs to my seat. Of course I was a lot fatter back then.

90 sounds about right…. 90 Celsius!
1000020132.png

It was 100° F. With a dew point at 64°. Calculates out to a heat index of around 103. Certainly hot, add in the concrete jungle and it was oppressive I am sure. But I bet I have been to a few dozen Texas rangers games that had a first pitch over 100°.

The day after the Memphis game, the Cowboys and Eagles played in Irving in the old Texas stadium. At kickoff it was 109°. Field temps were measuring over 130°. The Eagles dominated and and Duce Staley ran for 200+ yards. This was the infamous "Pickle Juice" game where the world learned pickle juice helps prevent cramping.

I can't imagine a stadium in the world worse than the old Texas Stadium when it's hot like that.
