How time flies......anybody remember with detailed memories? I have Geneseo going for the win and all the marbles on a 2-point conversion and coming up 12 inches short permanently etched and frozen in time in my brain in an absolute classic championship battle and contest. Many of the other details are fading with time for me. Cheers to that game and to those two great teams and programs giving me a great thriller memory for a lifetime.

Holman lumbering and Alstott weaving and smashing.
The length of John Horn's arm cost the Leafs the game and the Hilltoppers Championship #7.
Odell will never be the same.

I watched the john horn tackle from my neighbor's basement. I was, at that time, in the house of two All-state-to-be PC running backs. When horn made that tackle, I said, Im going to JC and went home. That is the extent of my story, but it's true.

Someone's gotta give a full recap of this to me. Did Geneseo go for 2 with no time left? The chills are running up my spine.

Get me those 22 guys on the field talking about that in a video ASAP.

Should have seen the game before.
Agreed. Another epic game preceded the
JC/Geneseo game. Belleville Althoff out lasted Rock Island Alleman 21-13 for the 3A Title. Fantastic game in its' own right. Keep in mind there were 6 classes at that time. In my mind, competition was just a bit tougher at that time.

I seem to recall Alstott being hampered by a severe thigh bruise that night. No excuses though. Very tough game on both sides

Interesting that Alstott is now coaching HS football in FL, and John Horn is the Development Director at JCA.

Outlasted is not the proper word - wore down is more accurate.

Hickey ran for 3000 and a hundred some more on 41 carries. Two goal line stands, going for two for Althoff to finally take the lead, another Althoff TD late in the fourth and the game ended with an Althoff interception by Drake Marahall to tie the state record at the time.

Probably the only 13-0 champ in recent (ha!) years. We played the MO state champs from STL, KY big school, Provi, and some from the SW conference - could not find a week nine game.
