This narrative always puzzles me. Can the guy coach football or not? I really don’t care if he didn’t knock out of the park in an interview. Now, if they think he is young and not ready to be a HC, I can understand that.
Why is it puzzling?

You interview two people who come to you for a job/position. Both have very similar résumé’s/credentials. One cannot string together a coherent sentence, dresses in torn clothing, and loses their train of thought as they respond. The other speaks eloquently in four languages, dresses impeccably, and doesn’t stammer and stutter when answering questions

Why are you picking the first guy?

It’s football coaching. Not brain surgery. Not police commissioner. Not fire chief. Not a financial consultant. I don’t give a rat’s azz if he interviews well. Just coach football well. It’s football. Let’s stop acting like it’s more important than it really is.

A football coach is representing the organization (or program) so you'd expect them to be able to interview decently. They literally have to deal with the press and often times tough questions. Now, this is probably why Cignetti was in his 60s before he got a P4 job but very few people are hiring someone that can't impress them in an interview; especially an outside hire that you don't truly know.

Now maybe Buffalo hires Brady because they know him well even if he bombs the interview or someone like Harbaugh probably wasn't even interviewed but he was interviewing teams but, generally speaking, they have to interview well.
