Congrats to all who made the team. Congrats to the 6 Richlands players named to the two teams and a huge congratulations to the 2A Player of the Year: John-Luke Asbury.

Congratulations to all the players. I don't agree how the players are selected by only stats. Good teams usually pull starters when they dominate a team and don't pad the stats. I see a lot of players missing from this list.

It's not just a stats thing. Stats play a part, but it's about more than just that. Asbury got player of the year and he only played 34 of 52 total quarters this year. Starts aren't all.

What is the other criteria becoming All-State besides stats? It's broken into region East and West. Someone with more stats are 1st team in each region . It was proven the West was more strong get than the east. Someone on the west 2nd team could have better stats than the 1st team East player.

For example the West could've had 6 RB that rush over 2000 yards. The East could've had 3 players rush for 1500. The top 3 rushing RB will be 1st team East/West. To be eligible for All-state you have to be 1st team All-Region. What about the other 3 2000 Rbs on 2nd team all region.? They get left off from All-State cause they were 2nd team All region. To me it's flawed!!

Still dont get it that Buster is All State at LB when he will clearly tell you he wasnt the best LB on team, he said that honor belongs to Jr. Delonta Kelso. I had this discussion with him last week. He said he felt like he was a better WR than LB, because he played minimally on defense. I think its politics because Buster didnt get it on O, so they had to give it to him on D.

Deven Dews definitely deserves that honor at Safety, phenomenal athlete!!!

Coach Smith deserved it!!! Congrats on getting that right!

When the coaches get together to vote for their all state team, you will probably see a lot more Appomattox players on the all state team. Last year, there were only a few players from Glenvar on the VHSL all state team. When the VHSCA got together to vote for their all state team, they scrapped the regional results and started from scratch. That is how Clifford made second team all state QB and Stanley was all state WR on the VHSCA team, but neither one made first team all regional.

Please wait for the VAPreps All-State. It's the only one unimpacted by politics and the good OL boy network. They will justify every choice. Only one thing matters for them, who is the best player at the position in their class.

No list will ever be perfect. Choices will be disputed but this one is as good as it gets in VA.

I believe you referenced before if you did not make 1st team All Region, you can not be chosen 1st Team All-State. Since I'm a Glenvar fan two stand out to me Manns and Stanley, both are team Captains, both are Seniors, and both played at a high level. However, Stanley did make 2nd team. Manns did not. VaPreps will get it right! By Clarke having 12 on the list means they were the best team in the East. The West had at least 5 teams that could've won it all. The West was that good!! This is why they should do away with region picks. FOR example In one region you could have a Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers. In another region you could have AJ McCarron, TJ Yates. Drew Brees, is first Team All-Region, and Aaron Rodgers is 2nd Team. TJ Yates will be first team in the other region while AJ McCarron will be 2nd team. They way they have it now Aaron Rodgers, and AJ McCarron will be left out cause they were 2nd team All-Region. Even though Aaron Rodgers is 100x better than TJ Yates he was 2nd Team, so he was left off. This is what's happening now!

Appomattox beat Clarke and to hear everybody talk Richlands would have as well. Who are your other three teams that would have beaten Clarke because Union certainly wasn't one and Union beat Richlands. I would be willing to be ten different coaches would have ten different lists except for the obvious few players. Appomattox should have had more than three players and I am sure when preps does their list they will be better represented. Congrats to all the boys who were selected.

That's correct. If you're not 1st team All-Region, you are not in the pool of players available for 1st team All-State.

Just FYI. IMO, VAPreps is a better list but you won't find a whole lot different from what's already out there. Most of the VHSL All-State selections are right on.

Most of you are speaking without perspective. Fans will do that and it's understandable.

The coaches aren't wrong. They actually see all of the teams, watch film, and prepare for games based on that film. They remember players who impacted game outcomes. I still think my nephew should have made first team All State, not second. I wasn't the only one who thought that, but I'm not whining.

We had a shut down CB in Devon Graves #14. He is our #2 WR behind Buster. Fastest kid on our team. He will probably be competing at QB next year. He was qb in middle school. No way this guy didn't make it to regions as CB? No way other than him being a sophomore. Remember that name! He will be one of the best players in VA for next 2 years (offense and defense depending on how coach plays him).

Matt page was 2nd best "raw" qb in state IMO.

I hate to disagree with you advocate, because I really liked watching your team play and was hoping for them to win states, and I have family down there. One of the most athletic teams I have ever seen and I have seen a lot of football. The part that I will disagree with you about is you saying you are not being a fan. You are and there is nothing wrong with that, but you only mentioned players from your team being the ones that deserved it and didn't get it, that is being a fan.

I can't say that all the kids either the VHSL or Va Preps one did or didn't deserve it. I didn't see every team and I would be willing to say that nobody on here except for maybe the VA Preps guys did. I can think somebody I saw is really that good and I could be right or wrong and it doesn't matter what I think. I might be the best talent evaluator ever, but if I am not part of the decision then it is moot (I am not saying I am, just stating that if I were it still wouldn't matter.) And guys really think about this, I will use QB as an example since there is only 2 all state QB's in 2A. If these guys have to be all region, then that is 2 spots out of 4. You can't really be upset when that is the case. It is a great honor for kids to make any of these lists, but the championship is more important and I really doubt that a kid being named ALL-something or not is going to prevent them or help them get a better chance to have a scholarship. I know that the R.E. Lee QB was 2nd team all state, well he was a lot of what they did this year on a pretty successful team. The Appomattox QB was very good, but he wasn't as much responsible to their success as the other, because Appo has SO many weapons. And like it is written he had to be as 1st team all region. Now is this the right thing to do, maybe maybe not, but I certainly think a player should have to be all region to be all state.

In the end, all of this is meaningless. The best player in the state is probably Joe Reed from Randolph-Henry, and he was not even all region. However, he will be suiting up for UVA next year on a football scholarship.

Best player in the State? Certainly more are higher rated. He's still a heck of a player.

But it does give a glimpse of what next level players are and how you don't have to be on a good team or program to get noticed. When you got the stuff, you got the stuff.

For those who may be aspiring to be a next level WR or skill player, this is where you need to be. Also, if a player is fortunate enough to get to the next level, EVERYBODY is this good.

As Maroon's said, this guy wasn't even All-Region and he's WAY better than many on the All-State list. Again proving that a list maker does not a recruit make. It's just a list that spends one day in the paper. You also get a plaque. That's all it gives you.

You want some stats, sorry to step on your toes and make you feel like you have the best sophomore in Virginia. De'von Graves from Appomattox is a sophomore that is not even on the 2A All State team. Guess what? He is a WR as well, just at your son is! Guess what else??? He didnt have the numbers your son had, but Coach told him he could play WR for D1 NC State! Here is his stats, an EYE POPPING 27 catches for 539 yards (crowd goes wild!)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JUST STOP it with my son did this and that. STOP doing that, its not right. Let that dude go beast for 2 more years and maybe he will get offered. If he dont, please dont go harming yaself though. I wish him the best.

His size is interesting and he has room to grow. He's young. The physical form is there but here are the only stats that will matter. 5.2 in the 40. Plays on a low level, losing team against poor competition and does not dominate.

My point is that an athlete coming out of high school does NOT need to be running a 4.2 40 to get a D1 nod. You sound insane to think so. What I was explaining to you above is that if a WR can make it to NFL with 4.5s, why would a high school athlete need to be faster? I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

You said 5.2, if you review your posts. I don't think you'll find a DT in the NFL that runs a 4.5 or better. But yes, my kid can easily beat 5.2 and he'll do it from a standing start. Frankly, all 3 of the boys can beat that with hardly any effort at all.

But it doesn't really matter. I'm sure you just went a little dyslectic on your numbers. That's all. The LU education was worth every dime. Did you find the egress yet?
