So in essence you are proposing that Cherokee be dropped in the seeding to be placed right behind Murphy? This could have quite a ripple effect as sometimes teams could be playing teams with higher RPIs and conversely some teams would also be playing teams with lower RPIs than they earned. It is a qlitch in the system but is it worth the collateral damage? Another consideration is that the state already is slow producing brackets, is it worth introducing addition constraints to slow down the process. Remember any changes made will be applied to all sports.

Yeah I was on a podcast and we discussed this issue. Of course it’s not right.
Last year, East Wilkes was co-champs and beat Alleghany head-to-head pretty bad and the Trojans were seeded higher than East Wilkes.

What is everyone's opinion on who looks like could match up in the finals this year?
Does Starmount have enough? Or is Corvian going to be too much come playoff time?
As for the East someone fill me in, will Tarboro have any competition during the playoffs.

I think in the East there are two other teams to keep an eye on. Warren County and Edenton.
How would you incorporate that with the formula that is already there?
I'll tell you why I think it's hard to incorporate it... Just because a team lost one game but plays a lot tougher of a schedule, they should be seeded under them? Say Hibriten has a lot of injuries and loses a close one to East Burke but wins all other 9 games. Is it fair to seed them below EB? That may take Hibriten from a top 5 seed to a bottom 5 seed in the west. Does the head to head only count in conference or out of conference too? It's already hard enough for some teams to find games, now teams aren't going to want to play in their own classification due to possibly dropping in RPI based on head to head.
Now you also have to think about sports like basketball that play a lot more games and each conference team twice. How does their head to head fit into the formula?
Not sure and head to head is not the end all be all but 2 teams that are close in rpi head to head should come into play.
I’m saying Murphy is flat out better than Cherokee and it’s a joke that the braves were ever ranked ahead of Murphy to begin with.
Again, it is not a ranking. It is a mathematical formula . That is 2 total different things. Rankings in this case would be one of the weakest systems you can use. Very few pollesters would of seen everyone and most teams have limited press coverage. This means much of the the rankings would be based on last year's results or a programs reputation. There does not exist a perfect system but rpi is as good as any.
It’s not uncommon in sports for the better team to not have home-field advantage in the playoffs. Just look at the Panthers in the NFL last year, or even how the MLB playoff format is set up. Being the better team doesn’t always mean you get to play at home.
I will agree with those comments! Starmount over many years has had some success playing on the road in the playoffs. The Ram faithful can travel well, and sometimes there is more energy with the fans just by being in a different atmosphere. I remember well the Rams played Charlotte Catholic at Myers Park High School in 1991, and won decisively. The Rams have played Maiden multiple times over the years, and has their number…winning in the western final at Maiden in ‘98. Had to travel to Tabor City to play South Columbus and won. In 2014, the Rams were not supposed to win against the former West Montgomery at Wadeville in the playoffs, but did. Sometimes seeding doesn’t matter, if you’re the better team.

Lot of people sleeping on Murphy IMO. Tarboro gotta get through Warren county first. And Edenton.
I’ve said it’s been a three team race in the west between Corvian, Murphy, and Starmount since this summer.
It’s gonna be an interesting next 5 weeks to see where these teams land in RPI for seeding purposes.

Based on what i've seen so far, I think Starmount is the favorite but would not be surprised to see Corvian or Murphy make it.
