You say this without seeing ESL or PFN or LA or MS all yet to play?

Come on - just because PR blew out Montini doesn't mean they should be crowned number 2 (or why not 1?) before the last two games are played.

They looked awesome and are a great team but I reserve my peanut gallery judgement until after the final two games are complete.

You look at it and say "how can you put them ahead of 7a/8a before those game?" while I look at it and say "how are they behind someone?" They would have a tough time with Loyola's size no don't but that's a really really good PR team.

Exactly. They might be. I said in my post - why not #1? My point - Wouldn't you want to wait and see the 7A and 8A games before you slam the cool aid jug and jump up and down saying PR is #2 "no doubt"???

Well that nullifies my post entirely, not sure how I missed that my apologies.

East St Louis, PN are teams I've seen before multiple times already this year and are in no way #1 or #2 in state.

Loyola would beat PR, Loyola just too big and physical this year. MS could steal #2 from PR if they beat Loyola.

If LA loses tonight they are my hands down #1, and that is regardless of the Montini game. I wouldn't even say that game meant anything to PR, they were so much better. If LA loses, the only other contender would be ESL, and I think they lose to PR this year.

ESL would stuff PR run game.

PR has no second option when the run game gets stopped.

CG stopped Evans and PR's run game week one. Not to say PR didn't get better since then, but they went to the air against CG with success, mostly to Ferbet, their tight end. They just haven't had to go it since week one but I wouldn't count them out.

ESL D would eat up the 6a champ.

do you think they'd score on ESL or that ESL O would choke?

I've been saying this for 3 weeks. The match up I want to see is PR run offense vs ESL Run Defense. Whichever gets the best of that matchup wins the game.

PR pass O tough to judge since they don't throw it and ESL pass D good - but can be exploited by an excellent passing game (i.e. GBN second round game)

PR D good but not great. ESL O good but not great.

DeKalb had to play real well to beat PR but I feel CG/PR would have been the better game. Oh well.

Were I to have a vote I'd need to see how the rest of this 7A game plays out (assuming a Loyola win), but as of now, I would have a very hard time picking PR over ESL.

In the immortal words of Stacey King, "Too big, too strong, too fast!"

Easy to score against swiss cheese defense.

PR is a well oiled machine. Most of the players on PR have been in the triple option offense since grade school according to those in the know. In the game against CG Evans had a hamstring issue so they passed more. PR has a big experienced O line which blocks extremely well. Evans is the best running QB in the state and IMO with his experienced line he could run very well against ESL or Loyola for that matter.

I would have given anything if the brackets sent East St. Louis to play Montini in the 2nd round of the 6A state playoffs instead of Prairie Ridge.

Heck the Broncos likely would have been playing SHG today.

Interesting. First I've heard about any injury early this year for Samson. He did carry the ball 20 times for 62 yards and their other RBs were "healthy." They just couldn't run the ball as well as they normally can, period. CG probably was in the best position of any team to defend against it as they see it in practice every day.

"PR D good but not great." What are you basing this on? Their defense was great this year. Gave up little in way of points all year and held an undefeated SHG, who gave Rochester their only loss, to essentially one earned TD today.

Three things

1 my opinion of what is good and what is great. That can be debated. Your definition might be different than mine.

2 eye test. Looking at ESL D tonite and watched PR D in the previous game. Again perception is in the eye of the beholder

3. Dekalb putting 35 points up on PR in their game. No one has scored over 30 on ESL. GBN almost did, but not quite and it was mostly thru the air except for one long run similar to PFN one long run.
