When that play happened, I remembered talking about it on sixpack. I couldn't remember who mentioned it though.

It's a great play- I remember Alabama beating us with a wheel route to Shaun Alexander in 1999. USC used to run Reggie Bush on wheel routes all the time as well.

and it's not like Walker is some chump DB. I know he's a linebacker, but where did Perkins come from?

I don't know why he was still starting this year. He was always out of position, missing tackles, or just being unathletic.

He was the definition of chump all year. Walker is a good example of recruiting rankings gone bad.

That's funny because I've always thought Allen Walker was a good player for ya'll. Isn't he the one who got robbed of an awesome INT last year at Auburn? Regardless, to call him unathletic is a dumb statement.

I've wondered why we havent done a few things this year- the screens we added also- our offense has totally transformed the last 2 weeks and I'm not sure why. We have played shittier defenses, but the playcalling has changed as well.

I'm still wondering why we havent run the option pass- we hit it a couple of times last year for big plays. I know we dont have featherstone anymore, but with the secondary walked up, Clark or someone can get deep on it...

He's unathletic and slow. I can't remember the INT you're talking about, but he's always out of position, and for a guy who used to play safety in high school, he's not very athletic.

Maybe you see something different, but I've not been very impressed with him.

Which is typical of many 4* recruits I've noticed. Walker came in, redshirted, then contributed for 3 years. He wasn't a gamebreaker, but with good players around him, he played well. This year, with less surrounding talent, he played a little down to that level. He doesn't suck, as you say. You're just down right now.

And essentially the Perkins TD referenced here incorporated the option a little - I mean, it was play action, but any time we even run straight play action it can look like a read option play. We did run the play a few times vs. Ark where Relf strafed down the line then backed up 2 steps for the throw - can't remember if we did this against OM. <div>
</div><div>Play action off of our "facebreaking counter play" (term borrowed from EDSBS tweets during the Ark game) is becoming a very dangerous weapon. That counter is so tough to stop that the play action will almost always produce some open targets.</div>

He's always been pretty good rushing the passer which he's gotten to do a lot of under Nix even from a SLB slot. He tries for the big hit instead of wrapping up way, way too much and is out of position considerably more than the LBs around him. Players like Tony Fein as a senior and Cornell as very solid MLBs and the safeties have saved his bacon and cleaned up for him. Penetrating d-linemen blowing up plays he'sgotten to clean up have helped as well. I never thought he was bad in coverage and he really had good position covering 27 on the TD...and then didn't turn around until too late....no field awareness.

I don't think he's particularly slow or unathletic but he absolutely makes himself look that way the way he plays. He was the one just flat out of position on the early long Relf run. Frankly, he's just not that smart on the field...dumb even....slow to react. I have no idea what he's like in person but it's amazing how often he gets out of position. It's ironic, really, because darned if Markeith Summers isn't similar about some of the stuff he does on the field and I hear from OB people so much how dumb South Panola players are and yet....

the one where Tyson had to crow-hop to throw last season...We havent run it all year...the post and post-corner off that play is tough to stop
