We win 4-5 this year. No way Dan gets fired. Schedule sets up easy for us to go to a bowl game next year so Dan's job is safe.

Assume Feeze recruits good next year and wins another 8-9.

feel good about the future or not?

Just please tell me that the automatic contract extensions are over. Dan should be in year 2 of his 4 year renegotiated contract. Once he hit the big time salary wise, he turned to ****. I'm not calling for his firing. Just don't give him automatic yearly extensions. He can earn a new contract in 2 more years, cash in a good 2014 season for a new job somewhere else, or get the 17 out in 2015 if he continues to perform at this level.

I hate to bring up Ole Miss but facts are facts. The multi year outlook for us in recruiting is not good. Dan has not shown anything to make me think he can be a great recruiter. When ole miss sucked we at least had a natural edge. If there is any reason to be optimistic about the next 3 - 4 years I would like to hear it

I'd like to think Mullen is gone in 3 years. We will be continuing our 10 year rebuilding efforts.

Rebuilding efforts? What are we rebuilding? When have we been a good program? Mullen has taken us to 3 straight bowls for the first time in school history, and everyone is calling for him to be fired because he lost to a similar SEC foe on the road. We have the absolute most retarded fanbase in America. No one is happy about tonight, but if you are looking for us to rebuild to a 10-win team, then you are just illogical. In the last 3 years we have won 9, 6, and 8. What the hell are you supposed to expect at Mississippi State. Everyone is clamoring to run off the winningest coach we have had in a long time because why? What are we realistically supposed to be accomplishing here?

Shaoman states we have lost 7 of 8 to FBS opponents. Of those 7 games, #1 in the nation, #5 in the nation, #13 in the nation, #14 in the nation, #17 in the nation, our rival at their place, and Auburn at their place. The only game we should have won was Auburn, and we blew it. I blame Dan for this game as well, but you all are going straight retarded tonight.

is it not a fair question to wonder the direction we are headed? Our biggest competitor in recruiting has momentum on the field and the recruiting trail. Dan has absolutely improved our play on the field from Croom, but Dan had not really shown any great ability to recruit. I am not on the fire Dan bandwagon but changes have to be made or we will be fielding a bunch of 2 & 3 star players in the next few years. And the 9, 7, & 8 win seasons are not going to be happening in the next 3 years. Keep Mullen but do something to bring in quality recruiters on the staff.

Honest question. Do you expect the next 3 years after this one to bring us a total 24 wins (average 8 wins a year)?

Its fine to question the direction, but it is absolutely retarded to demand that either the coach or AD get fired at this point. I have no problems with changes being made in the recruiting department, but some of our fans our going postal right now and look like freaking idiots. The fact is we have won 24 the past 3 years. That's averaging 8 wins a year at MISSISSIPPI STATE. We will most likely have a down year this year and people are begging for the axe to fall on Dan's head? Do people realistically believe we will be an 8 win team for the rest of history? If so, then we live in more of a fantasy world than Ole Miss fans.

Honest answer, i think we win 5-6 games this year and I think we have a dang good team next year and the next. We will still beat Troy, BG, Arkansas, Kentucky, and I think we will beat Ole Miss even though they are better than us. It's a home rivalry game.

I'm with you. Mullen has already taken us to "the next level." The next level for Mississippi State is not the next level for some other programs. We truly have many dumb delusional fans. AND this is not accepting mediocrity, it is facing reality. Just go to the games and enjoy football season and the fact that we will probably, under Dan and his staff, continue to go bowling regularly. Don't be concerned about what other programs are doing.

I don't think Mullen is a bad coach. He is +/- as a recruiter, but thats more Vegas than Mullen. When have we ever pulled in consistently high recruiting classes? THat said, I think 6-7 wins and a bowl 2-3 years on average is fine. How we do is not as much in our coaches hands these days as in the past. If programs like Vandy, the bears and Kentucky keep recruiting like this, they will rise above us even if we stay where we are.

Maybe the stadium expansion will help, but we are still one of the smaller stadiums in the conference. Vandy's stadium is an absolute joke--but it's in the middle of Nashville-- not Starkville.

the reason you should be concerned with what other programs are doing is because today's high school kids are. What they do effects our recruiting if we let it. And the way things look we are letting it happen. I wouldn't concern myself with them if we had a history of great recruiting but we don't. I am not for firing Dan right now, but part of his job is to figure out a way to get the best talent in the state.

That's also Freeze's job. And as it always is, we will pretty much split them. Some years we will get the majority, and other years they will get the majority. The fact of the matter is there is not enough talent in Mississippi to support two SEC programs. The only way either of us will make a big step is to do what Ole Miss did last year- spend a ton of money on big recruits.

Mullen does some things good and better than most people we could get here, but he also does some things bad.

1) consistent good offense play calling
2) managing momentum. How often do we start clicking then just abruptly it is gone? How often when things start to go bad do the wheels fall off? Egg bowl last year is a perfect example.
3) surround himself with a good staff.
4) recruit at an above average level.

so we balance what he does good with what he does bad and decide if it is the best we can do. We also look at what he does poorly and see if he can improve on it. Of the 4 things I listed how does everyone feel about him improving in those areas?
