Should they decide to do one on message boards, and how they drive away successful coaches and potential 5 and 4 star recruits, since this board has the market on that.

I liked the Yoohoo bath for the league champion... That would be awesome.

the two Mississippi State message boards have it all.

sheep vs. realism
mostly young vs. mostly old
one message board operator has:
1. almost gotten into a fight with a rival message board operator on a recruit's front yard
2. called a potential head coach and asked if he was a scientologist
3. asked recruits what their favorite color/pizza topping is
while pulling down six figures operating said message board

while the other message board is happy to pull down six slices of pizza and
1. breaks news like actual jersey pictures, new logos, etc.
2. breaks national news like "Trent Lott is resigning tomorrow, guys" when no major news outlet even sniffed of it.

The Scout guys make bank. The Alabama scout guy pulls in a $million+/year, has offices and a staff in Tuscaloosa.

Think about it like this.

Approximately 4000 paying members at $99.99/year = $399,960.
The best guess out there is about 40 percent goes to Scout/Sports Illustrated, etc. ($159,984)

That leaves about $240k. He has some overhead (paying writers, travel, etc.), but not a lot. Him and Murray split the profit.

Scout produces Dawgs Bite now.

I guess there is some overhead in printing and mailing the actual publication that I did not factor in.

He has his Mississippi baseball board charging 40 bucks a pop. But I must admit, it's actually pretty good. He still asks the pizza and pets ******** questions, but other than that it's pretty good.

And as much as I love Bulldog Junction, Genespage is still better as far as baseball coverage. The Junction kicks Genes *** when it comes to football though.

I'm sure every fanbase has its share of sheep and rational people. Maybe they all co-exist on their message boards.

Maybe what's different is the fact that there was so much censorship and arrogance as far "breaking news"- and there still is- plus a floundering football program that was about to go on probation, a baseball team that was being run into the ground, and a good basketball team at about the time this board was formed. It seems like the impetus for this board was definately a bunch of things coming together at one time.

I know that when I posted in Genespage, I got REAL tired of posts being deleted. I never got banned though.

Other schools have multiple message boards, but other than MSU and maybe Ole Miss, there is not a clear cut split among the message boards (sheep and realists coexist on multiple boards). And I don't think its as big at Ole Miss as it is here.

With GP and SPS, I figure there is a 90/10 split on sheep/realists both ways. At one point there was a solid rivalry within the fanbase, but Mullen has calmed that down a bit, to be honest, and people have just stayed where they ended up through the great split of 2004-08. I still have a Scout handle (I was warned but never kicked off - but I haven't posted on GP in years and I canceled my premium account three years ago). To be honest, the only thing you can get from the premium articles are pizza toppings and pets - the rest of the stuff is reported by VZ or ends up here anyway.

Gene is an accountant. He knows money. He does not know sports. He is not a good writer. But he does know money. To his credit, he has turned a hobby into a situation where he and his wife could both quit their jobs, move into a nicer neighborhood, and have a job that entails going to MSU sporting events outside of Oxford (I guess you have to deal with the death threats from opposing fans after something like the Robert Elliot incident).
