30 games in, how wooly are you now about MSU baseball?

For me, I like where we stand at 20-10. Sure I wish we were 25-5, but I think we are in good shape.
  • With our current record, we are still a favorite to host a regional
  • We are are set up to make a run for the SEC regular season championship having won our first 3 SEC series
  • Our pitching is great as expected, hitting leaves much to be desired

Looking around the country, the only teams I would seriously dislike our chances against in a Super Regional are: Virginia, Florida State, South Carolina, and UC Santa Barbara. Everyone else in the top 25 has either dropped a fair number of games themselves, or have a weak schedule (Louisiana Lafayette). I'd like to see us get to 40 wins, but that's going to be a challenge against our SEC schedule.

Moderately wooly

I would still say we miss Adam Frazier's bat big-time....but a couple of guys are coming through here and there.

I Love the fact that we have a good chance at winning 2 outta 3 every weekend with our current combination of Ross Mitchell locking down one game virtually by himself...and the combination of Fitts, Lindgren, and Holder is rock solid as long as we get a couple of runs.

There will not be a Super Regional in Starkvegas, but regional host will happen barring total collapse.

What would be the bare minimum amount of wins needed to get in the post season without winning the SEC tourney? Between 33 and 35 wins maybe?

Here's what history says

To win the SEC: 15-6
To be a national seed: 14-7
To host: 12-9
To make NCAA Tournament: 9-12

Unfortunately for us, those numbers assume that we have not lost as many non-conference games as we have. Here's hoping those were constructive loses to better competition than in previous years.

If we finish 14-7 in the SEC and only lose

one more nonconference game(would have to be Ole Miss), we will be a national seed. A win in the SEC tourney would help. We have a LONG way to go. We don't have the bats to win 20 games in the SEC. Hell, we could get swept in Baton Rouge and be fighting to make the tourney.

College baseball right now is too unpredictable to feel good about anything. A team sweeps one weekend and gets swept the next. Lsu getting swept is probably the worst thing that could happen to us.

.500 overall with a decent RPI

aTm got in last year at 32-27(13-16) as a 2 seed in Corvallis with an RPI of 32

I'm not sure why you are asking this question though?

Need to be 9-6 at the midway point. 10-5 would be amazing, 11-4 and we may be the favorites to win the entire league.

I really think we win four out of our last 5 series with at least one sweep. So that could put us right at the 20 win mark in league play. That's national seed territory.

I'm optimistic about this team but not confident yet. With that said I think we

will host a regional.

Agree ...

BUT feels good being in First place in both the West and SEC. When was the last time we were in first after 3 series?

Also, when was the last time LSU had only 3 wins after 3 SEC series? Understand they have only played 7 SEC games, but were ranked 3rd opening their SEC slate.

They tied with UGA last Sunday after 13 innings because UGA had to fly back for classes on Monday, so that one wont show up in any W-L columns.

medium wool. the sec is just too treacherous of a neighborhood to ever feel anything resembling comfortable.

cohen sure has a knack for making people's comments look stupid. he got me last year, but not this year...i learned my lesson especially concerning the late season sec slate.

JMHU but winning the SEC tourney or making a deep run though "fun" for us as fans, isn't worth the wear and tear on the players.

I think we made the perfect amount of a "run" last year in the SEC tourney...outside of the ridiculously long game against Mizzou...

Play 4 games -- get the whole staff a normal week/weekend worth of work -- and take it to the house. We can still win the thing in 4 games if we get one of the top 4 SEC seeds and don't go into the loser's bracket...

Our problems are nothing that can't be cured by liberal use of 8th inning white font in chat.

With my maroon font for balance.
