...this team hadn't shown much improvement, and we had one genius who claimed this team wasn't any better than Polk's last team

but you're definitely good to start with those three. Patdog used to be a bad hater, but has evened out a little bit.

Especially after the second loss to Bama. We were 24-18 (7-13 SEC) at the time. We were more competitive than most of the teams we have had lately but it was not showing in the win column at that time. They deserved the criticism back then. These last three weeks they have played great and deserve a ton of credit for turning it around.

The idiots on here want to call the season a failure half way through, or better yet call a ballgame over when the other team scores a couple of runs in the second inning

...this team reminds me of the 1987 squad, loaded with 1st players who really gelled at the end of the season. Pete Young, John Cohen, Bobby Reed, and a few others I don't remember.

The team that was 24-18 and 7-13 was doing the same thing then that they did in the first 3 innings tonight. 8 runners left on base, 5 in scoring position, bases loaded left twice...

The team that was 24-18 and 7-13 back then had laid a few eggs to get to that point....much like the team that pounded out 5 hits and 3 runs in a 12-3 loss last Saturday night.

They are playing better....much better in fact....but.....the still cannot win a game without scoring more than 5 runs. And they will have to do that, possibly this weekend, but for sure in post season.

An example of strangeness that is baseball...tonight...in the 9th, the Memphis pitcher walks Freeman on 4 pitches to load the bases. Prior to that, Freeman was 0 for 5. But then, the same pitcher that couldn't throw a strike to a guy who was 0 for 5, got ahead of the SEC's best hitter and induced a routine grounder to short and....even though we won 8-3, we again....left the bases loaded. Winning is ALL that matters....but at some point in a game that is really, really important, somebody is going to have to get a hit with the bases loaded. it is almost freakish the way these guys leave bases loaded.

Be realistic here. People are not going to wait until the season is over to complain. We darn sure don't wait to see how basketball season turns out before we all start freaking out.

It is also much more fun to read the board when we get behind by a single run in the first inning or get off to a slow start in basketball. The comedic value is off the charts.

It is clear, finally, that Cohen has us moving in the right direction. Up until about a month ago, that was questionable at best. And some of his coaching decisions have been baffling, for the lack of a better word, along the way. The attitude of the team has finally taken on the personality of its coach. In the case of John Cohen, that is a very good thing.

I do love how you admit it is stupid to do it in basketball but were just defending everyone doing it in baseball. Makes a lot of sense

You have got serious reading comprehension issues. I did not defend ****. I said it was not realistic to expect people to wait until the season was over before commenting on the team. We do it in every sport. However, there is a big difference in letting a game play out and letting an entire season play out.

then you are an idiot. Coaching or no coaching, recrootin like that is going to make it hard to lose. Ask Ed Orgeron what happened when his recruits became upperclassmen.

what happened is our SEC schedule was front loaded with teams that were better than us. We took some lumps there early, but we also picked up a few wins that have given us some confidence. When we got to teams that were more on our level talent wise we started to do better- the Georgia and Alabama series being exceptions, although we only lost those two games to Alabama by one run, so it's not like it was a total disaster even though we didn't play well. I also think that playing a double header vs Alabama hurt us because we had an emotional loss and then had to come right back out and play again. We didn't have time to re-focus- but that's how it goes.

During non-conference play we did OK, but we were gelling- we also didn't have Routt at all except for the Lipscomb game. We had a few losses that happen to pretty much everyone else in the SEC too.

But, those wins over Vanderbilt- probably the biggest, South Carolina, and Florida- even though we lost those series and then sweeping Auburn, it gave our players confidence that they could play with and beat anybody. We've carried that over and now we're playing really good baseball right now. Shifting Pollorena to the rotation has been a great move- as I said, it would make or break us- so far it has made us.

Orgeron laid the foundation at Mississippi but couldn't reap the benefits.

In Cohen's case, he is laying the foundation and starting to reap the benefits.</p>
