York has continued to find ways to win, but being in a track meet with Petersburg is all I need to see. York in any other district is a 5-5 team on par with the talent of a Petersburg team and they showed that last Friday. This will be their first challenge playing a next level opponent all season long and I feel like this is where their luck runs out. Phoebus is too athletic, and gritty of a team, they play with an edge like the old Miami Hurricanes, and York unfortunately won’t match their intensity and physicality.

My heart is with York to do what they need to win as the other games to date but my head says the talent, ability and toughness of Phoebus especially on quick turf has York’s luck running out. The spread I’m not sure, I could see 13 points or 28. But I’ve been wrong before.

The last two matchups was close. York is at Home. Phoebus is the favorite but I anticipate a close game with Phoebus pulling away in the 2nd half.

The matchup last year was a hard fought game but the game in 2016 was a blowout. This game actually scares me because it's a game that Phoebus should be expected to win and we have had our issues with those types of playoff games in the past. Secondly, York has been chomping at the bit to get another crack at Phoebus since last year and now it's on their field. They have everything they want this time. Also Phoebus can't afford to look ahead for a potential game at Hopewell. The Phantoms must remain locked in and I believe they will. I know I'm waffling like Skip Bayless, but I still see Phoebus winning 32-14.

One thing for sure, it will be really crowded. This is what York has been waiting for, for 10 years. It will be interesting to see how each team handles the intense pressure. The York Qb is a risk taking gunslinger with some excellent receivers and a big back. My concern would be the York defense. Big numbers against Petersburg and Warhill. I’d pick Phoebus 34-21.

Doubt it will be any intense pressure for Phoebus. and York isn't scoring 21 on Phoebus defense

I like Phoebus 26-13. It will be close and competitive I predict. I just hope the refs let the kids play. York has a good coach that knows how to make adjustments during the game. Phoebus cannot afford to look past York. York has won close games and they've been waiting for this game. Phoebus wants to get back to the State Championship. Phoebus will need to play with a chip in this against and play inspired ball throughout because I believe York will. Even after saying all of that I still think Phoebus is the better team, but that is why they play the games.

Hold up, fatty, I thought this game was going to be a cake walk? If Phoebus wins, they did what they were suppose to, right? If not, are you and your fellow Phantom fans going to admit that York was the better team?

Phoebus is the better team. I said they would beat York. I never said they would blow them out. You need to go back, do your research and read my posts. York will get their chance at their place. If York beat Phoebus, they beat Phoebus. I dont make excuses for losses like Ram fans.(This player was hurt, the wind was blowing too hard, etc lol) BRD district was weak this year. The Peninsula District was down too but we still have three teams in the playoffs. York is y'alls only hope. Hell a 4-7 team in Kings Fork just beat Warhill after y'all bragged about y'all winning 42-0. York struggled with Tabb. They let a 5-5 team in Petersburg score 40 points on them. If Phoebus did blow York out I wouldn't be surprised. Hell we just blew out Tabb 46 -7. I think y'all beat Tabb something like 10 -7. The game is close and in the 2nd half Phoebus pulls away. Defense wins championships. 55 -40 games are played by teams that struggle on defense. Not a good recipe against Phoebus bud.

The way you and Phoebus Fan have been throwing shade at the BRD, it sounds like this game should be an easy win. York is the BRD champ, but that doesn't mean anything to y'all...how good could they possibly be, right? It honestly sounds like you're hedging your bets, just in case York somehow pulls this one out. If a 5-5 team scored 40 on York, I'd think an 11-1 team should be able to double that, right? Based on your comments and analogies, my question to you is, how's Phoebus not going to blow them out? You talk a lot of cash, then water it down by saying it will be close and competitive...doesn't make sense...no backpedaling, bud.

I call it like I see it. Please review my posts. I'm not throwing shade. Warhill is who we thought they were. Lafayette is who we thought they were. People didn't think Petersburg, a 5-5 team could play with York and they did. Tabb almost beat York. lol I never said Phoebus would blow York out. They have traditionally played close games. I also said I believe Hopewell would beat Phoebus this year. I call it like i see it. BTW...Who is the great Lafayette playing this week Bud? Every year is y'all year and you guys get beat in the playoffs after dominating BRD teams. lol Even if y'all were playing this week I don't think y'all would fair that well because it's suppose be real cold outside, with a little wind gusts blowing to the southwest. But since y'all are not playing, go buy you a ticket to the game tomorrow and enjoy. This is a message board where people can state what they think. Nothing about York scares me. How many state Titles have York won? Ohhh don't worry, I'll wait. What is your prediction for the game? Mine is 26-13 Phoebus.

No way do anybody brag and talk more trash then Lafayette fans. Every year is y'all year. Phoebus Fan said Phoebus wins by 4 -5 tds. PHSBlue&gold said Phoebus wins 32 -14. I said 26-13 Phoebus. No one is backpedaling. If York wins then congrats to them but its hard to imagine that giving up 40 points in the playoffs to a 5-5 team that wasn't close to winning their district. I'd like to know how Gloucester would now do in the BRD district. York barely beat them. 17-13. In the playoffs it doesn't matter the spread, its survive and advance. That is all that matters.

I fail to see any Lafayette fan on here bragging or trash talking. I don’t know what posts you read. But of course you also fully realize injuries, bad weather, etc. never affects any games so we never need to talk about it. We did play our best game against Warhill and followed that up with a turnover plagued game on our part. That happens in football. We have played past Thanksgiving a fair amount in past years. Not this year. So be it. It’s not devastating. I found all the “y’all’s” quite amusing.

Me too. Injuries, weather and penalties are apart of the game but we only hear about it when the Rams lose. Never when you win. I take back the bragging and talking trash bc you guys are just homers for your team.

Okay, a 5-5 team scored 40 on York; Phoebus blew Gloucester out, while York barely beat them; Phoebus blew Tabb out, while York barely beat them...you keep reiterating these things, yet you're predicting a 13 point win for Phoebus? Again, you're not making sense to me...if Phoebus wins tonight, don't expect a pat on the back...if York wins, don't tuck your tail and hide.

Over on Hrvarsity- the tidewater newspaper group their three prognosticators say:

phoebus 24-23
Phoebus 26-17
York 21-20
As they cover these teams weekly what are they thinking with these close scores that we are not aware of?

Phoebus on pedigree. Bay Rivers doesn't play defense like the Peninsula. Two turnovers in a 38-24 game.

14-12 at the half, Phoebus ahead on xtra points. Both teams had a turnover deep in their own territory that lead to a score.

Phoebus blows it open in the 3rd Q, 34-12 now. Game over! This is what makes football so interesting, play even for an entire half and then defensively it falls apart.
Now 41-18. I was worried about the York defense and it was justified in the 2nd half. Congrats to Phoebus for the big 2nd half.

Hey bud, you still there? York played very hard and they are well coached. Hands down Phoebus was the better team but York fought to the end and I can respect that from the BRD best team. Great season to all BRD teams and good luck next year. #Respect

Good win Phoebus. Saw a lot that makes me worried about next round though. Still gave up big plays. That last TD York got was horrible DB play. The QB play is still not what it should be through the air but he is showing a lot of heart on the ground.

Shoutout to York #1 and #12 they are some ballers.

Thanks for the somewhat Congrats, but there was a reason York's defense fell apart in the second half. Although the score was only 14-12 at the half. Phoebus was physically wearing the Falcons defense down by consistently smacking them in the mouth with the power run game in the first half. That will wear any team down if they aren't used to that. I thought Phoebus played one of the more disciplined games I've seen in some time. Phoebus knew coming in that York had a high octane offense and present a different type of challenge but the game plan was impose our will on them until the dam broke in the second half. Like I said before had Phoebus lost last night, I'd support York to bring the trophy back to the Peninsula/Middle Peninsula area. I don't get up and and try to go back n forth.

is that the QB? He’s part of the reason that a potential Hopewell matchup worries me with how he was extending plays . There’s no question if he’s a Tebow fan or not lol. Overall though York was a lot better than I thought but definitely a 5-5 or 6-4 PD team.

Yes, Gatz is the QB. Won’t argue the last point as with a very few points difference in the BR they could have been 6-4. York had a 10-0 type offense but a more average type of defense.

I honestly don't like how they used #1 and they depended on #12 too much. Plus they found one play that worked one time and ran it too much. Like things like that don't work against a defense like Phoebus. York didn't take advantage of their mismatches and made no adjustments at halftime from what i saw.

Agree, York left something in the locker room on both sides of the ball at half time (outscored 27-6 in 2nd half). When the opponent is a talented 9-1 you have to change things up to be successful.

Best of luck next week most likely at Hopewell. I look to see that 2nd half surge once again.

Congrats to Phoebus. Would have loved to seen a Lafayette vs Phoebus matchup this year. Been wanting that game for the Peninsula for years.

Don’t get me wrong, Lafayette has no one to blame but themselves. Just a bummer that the 1st time a PD Champ vs BRD Champ Playoff Game didn’t include the team that has one the BRD for the past decade.

Again, congrats to both York and Phoebus for great seasons.

I’ve been looking forward to that game too. I agree we can only blame ourselves, a poor second half against York and an abysmal effort against Norcom with a new record of turnovers in a single game -8!! Very un Lafayette like. Perhaps next year, a fair amount of key players return and JV undefeated this year. This year should be quite a motivator for next year.

Phoebus use to blow out the Rams when they was last in the district but the rams are a better program now. I want to see that matchup as well.
