Tua was at the same QB competition as Mac this past summer. They were side by side. Tua was better. Tua was heads and tails better than every QB there. It's why he's the #1 QB in the class.

Lastly, Bama has had 2 QBs announce they were transferring so don't tell me they aren't afraid of competition. The fact is the writing is on the wall for the guys transferring - they aren't going to play and they know it.

For the record, I'm ecstatic with how SJ has performed. But he is playing "in front of" Drew Barker due to Barker's injury.
QB competitions show the ability to do the drills and make throws without the duress of 270# DEs trying to take your head off. They don't demonstrate decision making, escape ability or leadership. Which is why the winner of those competitions rarely end up being the best QBs in their class.

Maybe it is the fact they see a freshmen establishing himself as the man for the rest of his time in Bama and they won't have a chance to start.

Have you seen film of Tua? There's a reason he's a 5-star. Go watch his decision making, ability to escape (he's a dual-threat QB), and leadership.

He's better than Mac Jones - at least at this point - without a doubt.

four star players leave ALA every year but you never hear about it and they sign another 4 star to replace them . Ky has so few 4-5 star it's more noticeable when they don't develop. Kids should alway look at playing time going to a school if you don't then, they are not educated about the process which is a lot times the case.
Btw Johnson never played in front of Barker, Barker was injured, Barker outplayed Johnson in the Spring and Fall camp but as the case with so many Qbs switchs the guy who stays healthy plays. When Johnson struggled and turned the ball over which he did a lot early,UK had to stick with him because they did not want to burn Hoak redshirt. Johnson made a great choice coming to
UK because the QB depth chart was so thin
Here is what I know...if you are better than the people ahead of you, you'll play. If you are worried about not being better than someone else then you won't be. If you are scared of competing with someone because you think they may be better than you, you've lost the battle before it has begun.

Johnson made a great choice coming to UK because it was his only P5 offer. His other offers were Arkansas State, Eastern Michigan, Lamar, Hawaii and Morgan State. Johnson took the most challenging of those offers. He had the confidence in himself to rise to the challenge, not seek the path of least resistance. Which fits exactly with what I was saying. If you go to Bama you know that most every other player on the roster was a 4 or 5 star recruit and you're going to have to work your *** off to play...and you still might not be good enough. You have the will and drive to make the effort, make others prove it on the field.

Why do guys do this to themselves? A QB position isn't a spot where you can share time so if you're going to sign somewhere, you better make damn sure you're the guy. If I'm a QB, I'd rather sign at a place that's not as good so I know I'll get snaps very soon as opposed to signing on with teams like Alabama who'd recruit over you in five minutes.

I remember when Mitch Mustain transferred to USC, I thought that was so stupid on his part and it was.

Top athletes don't think the way you do. Top athletes welcome the challenge of anyone trying to take their position. Football is a team sport. If you are more worried about you than your team if I am the coach I'm showing you the door. If you want to win then you want great players around you. If you just want to play then you can go somewhere like Austin Peay and lose 25+ games in a row.

Kids signing scholarships believe that they can prove that they are better than anyone else at their position. Put another way... If Peyton Manning, Tim Couch, Cam Newton, Tom Brady were 18 yrs old again do you think they would be worried about who they would have to compete against? When Tom Brady was at Michigan, Michigan kept trying to recruit someone to replace Brady because he was too slow and his arm wasn't strong enough...Brady kept proving he was better. When 6 QBs and 198 other players were selected ahead of Brady in the NFL draft Brady went out and proved that he was better than any of them.
