I agree. Great read. And very encouraging report on the CBs. I am probably more excited about this football season than any other in recent years. You can debate the hell out of whether we should play OSU or not. But, the fact remains, we are playing them and are about to find out how we stack up against a very good OOC opponent. If this DL plays up to its potential, we could have a very special defense this year. The talent is there, there is no denying it. Let's hope Turner and Collins can put the best guys out there and put them in the best position to succeed.

CB is encouraging

But just seeing the size at WR is nice. Not only are our top guys now bigger but don't forget this class has more size coming. Bigger targets for TR to throw at certainly can't hurt

It is so nice that Cox seems to be everything that we thought he was. He is so key to our defense this year, and JUCO guys can be so hit or miss. Him shining is such a relief.

I hope Redmond can hold that 2nd CB spot

I saw Love get burned a bit last year. Granted, he fell down on the one against UK, but I think he and Jiles would be better suited for nickel duty at this point.

Cox is a baller. We are really, really, reeeaallllyyy lucky he didn't go to Bama. I don't think anyone realizes how hard Bama was after him.

Thanks for that, my gut tells me we have reason to be optimistic that we

have ourselves a capable Defensive Coord. and that we will be much better
next year. The schedule will be tough but I think it is reasonable to
expect 7 wins next year, maybe 8 if we get lucky.

what about Jiles? Until he got hurt last year, people were talking about him being our next really good corner. Hopefully, we are just in good shape at that position.

You're on to something. Everyone has written off Taveze Calhoun, and Banks was really hyping him the last two years.

if you don't hear much on him is b/c he's injured. Can't read too much into everything b/c it's impossible to single out and watch 100 guys

Rumor has it that Redmond is just that good... He was held out last year because of the NCAA matter, not due to how good he actually was or how well he was progressing. Beauty is that even though we saw Giles play some snaps early, he still preserved eligibility for a medical redshirt when the time comes(should he want to take it)...

I'm sprouting some wool because I feel like we know Giles is pretty good -- and if Redmond and Cox are better than him, we should be fine at CB barring mental mistakes. It's pretty telling IMO that if Cox is still at CB, Nickoe must be really impressing at FS. I have to believe that IF he was the same guy we saw last year(bowl game notwithstanding), we would have Cox @ FS, Nickoe at SS(so he could focus on stopping the run -- which he's much better at anyway IMO) and Jiles/Redmond at CB...

The 2 corners that we are putting in the NFL were a no-offer 2* and a no-offer 3*. The ones we replaced them with are a 4* with serious offers from Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio St, Clemson and 3 other SEC teams --- and an underrated 4* JUCO that was full-court pressed by Alabama, offered by 5 other SEC schools, Oklahoma St, and Nebraska. While we certainly can't say they are/ever will be better than Banks/Slay, they are certainly much more highly thought of before their debuts...Feel like the defense may actually take advantage of their talents this year as well...

I don't know why, but I'm not as optimistic about Collins. Possibly because of how well the last "promote from within" DC worked for us.

Surprise, Surprise....

-O line- With everyone basically returning I believed this could be a strength of the team and I think I was right. In my mind our O line is in better shape than it has been the last 2 years. Our starting 5 looks really good and there are some depth guys who look to be really improving especially Devon Desper, Dylan Holley, and Justin Senior.

take Coch34's credit all five times he is right. C34 was the first one to point out that our O-Line only gave up 16 sacks last season. Pretty easy to guess they'll be better with everyone projecting to return. Add on top of that more tight end sets, so they should be the strongest unit.
